Ex-Phillies update: Betancourt, Qualls

A nation exhales: two days after his release from the Phillies, Yuniesky Betancourt has secured employment. And we'll have Chad Qualls to kick around some more.

Well, that didn't take long: not even forty-eight hours after the Phillies cut him loose, infielder Yuniesky Betancourt has signed a major-league contract with the Brewers. Our SBN sister site Brew Crew Ball has the story, and is less than enthused at the news. I'd forgotten that Yuni already had one go-round in Beertown:

You probably remember him as a dreadful 2011 Brewer, where he played 152 games at shortstop and hit .252/.271/.381 while playing defense so poorly that we frequently compared him to things like a pan of lasagna.

It's kind of like if Juan Castro or Paul Bako returned.

In other ex-Phillies news, the Miami Marlins announced that Chad Qualls will start the season in their bullpen, per MLBTR tweet. Coming just days after the Fish inked Wilson Valdez, Qualls gives them five ex-Phils, as he and Exxon join Greg Dobbs, Placido Polanco and Juan Pierre. Eric Bruntlett could not be reached for comment.
