So, today's some kind of counter culture holiday right? Some, like, event where people around the world unite in their appreciation of an illicit substance of some kind or another? A kind of worldwide effort to free one's mind? Right, that's what today is?
Well, with lack of any other information, I have to imagine that April 20th is actually just about the deep, deep opiate of major league baseball. So let's all partake. It's good timing, too, after just a whale of a week that I'm fairly sure no one really enjoyed. It seems like a perfect moment to put that behind us and get on with another, hopefully less tumultuous week. The sun is shining (ed note: in Chicago; may not actually be shining elsewhere), and the brisk snowy air of April (ed. note: ?????) fills our spirits -- let's play ball!
The Phillies are hopefully turning their own corner as the world cools down and heats up respectively. Coming off of a fairly strong -- if somewhat home run prone -- start from mystery man Roy Halladay, the Phillies finally eked out a 2013 victory against an NL Central club. As always, the Cardinals are no joke, but that the Phillies were able to knock around fairly excellent starter Jaime Garcia should give us hope heading into tonight's matchup against talented-but-mercurial starter Lance Lynn. Also confidence inducing: Cliff MF Lee.
So cue the mind erasing powers of baseball and let's try to move forward. Baseball 4/20, friends -- smoke taters every day. Discuss your favorite illicit substances and social critiques -- both of which are obviously baseball -- below.
