Per numerous sources including resident go to guru Jim Salisbury The Phillies have opted to go with Tyler Cloyd Friday to take Roy Halladays spot in the rotation.

While many casual fans may have been hoping for Adam Morgan (or Jesse Biddle...Ugh...) The decision to go with Cloyd over Adam Morgan is the right one. Morgan has 6 triple A starts under his belt, has struggled a bit of late, isnt on the 40 man, would have his clock started early, and needs more seasoning. When he does get the call, it shouldn't be like this, it should be for good because he's ready.

While Cloyd struggled early this season, he threw a gem last time out, striking out ten and walking none over 8 innings. He was 2-2 in six tarts last season for the Phillies, with a 4.91 era, and as Salisbury mentioned, can be homer prone, having allowed 8 long balls in 33 innings at the big league level last year.

Whether this is a spot start or something more temporarily permanent remains to be seen, but with the Phillies not needing a 5th starter again until May 21st, even if Cloyd stays up, expect him to shift to long man duties for a few weeks. Depending on the news today regarding Doc, and how Lannan progresses, expect to see a different starter down the line if this is more long term, whether thats Morgan, Ethan Martin, or someone from outside the organization.
