Lehigh Valley 4, Columbus 2 (6/21)
Tom Cochran - 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 6 K, HR, 5 GB, 4 FB
Cesar Hernandez - 3 for 4, K, SB
Cody Asche - 0 for 4
Darin Ruf - 0 for 4, 2 K
Cameron Rupp - 0 for 4, K
Phillippe Aumont - 1.1 IP, H, 1 R, 1 ER
Steve Susdorf and Derrick Mitchell provided the homeruns that Lehigh would need to win Friday. Impressive outing from Cochran who shutdown Columbus.
Columbus 6, Lehigh Valley 2 (6/22)
Tyler Cloyd - 5.1 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, 2 HR
Cesar Hernandez - 1 for 4, 2B, 3K
Cody Asche - 2 for 3, 2B, RBI, BB
Darin Ruf - 0 for 4, 2 K
Cameron Rupp - 0 for 4, RBI, K
Tyler Cloyd has continued his downward AAA spiral. Columbus got significant production out of former MLBers Daisuke Matsuzaka and Jeremy Hermida.
Columbus 8, Lehigh Valley 7 (6/23)
Carlos Zambrano - 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 B, 6 K, 4 GB, 2 FB
Cesar Hernandez - 0 for 3, 2 R, 2 BB, K
Cody Asche - 2 for 5, R, RBI, 2 K, SB
Darin Ruf - 3 for 4, R, 2 RBI
The Iron Pigs lost the game and lost the weekend series 1-2. The offense flourished receiving contributions for all in the lineup. Zambrano wasn't as sharp as previous outings and the bullpen (and a costly catcher interference on Lerud) dropped the game in the bottom of the 9th. Ruf's bat finally woke up this series, but it wasn't enough.
Reading 5, Richmond 3 (6/21)
David Buchanan - 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, BB, 7 K, HR, 6 GB, 2 FB
Maikel Franco - 1 for 4, R, HR
Anthony Hewitt - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI, K, CS
Zach Collier - 2 for 4, R, K
Tyson Gillies - 1 for 3, R, HR, 2 RBI, K
Tyler Knigge - 1.2 IP, H, 2 K
Is this Franco for real? Another HR for the hottest Phillie prospect. Buchanan threw a great game and left Richmond hitters off balance. A Gillies sighting!!
Richmond 6, Reading 5 (6/22)
Austin Wright - 5.1 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, 7 GB, 5 FB
Maikel Franco - 1 for 4
Sebastian Valle - 1 for 4, R, 2 K
Zach Collier - 1 for 2, 2 R, K
Anthony Hewitt - 3 for 4, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI
Tyson Gillies - 1 for 4, RBI, K, SB
Not a great game for Wright, who after 2 solid starts, put forth another clunker.
Reading 14, Richmond 6 (6/23)
Seth Rosin - 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, HR, 5 GB, 2 FB
Maikel Franco - 4 for 5, 2 R, 3B, HR, 4 RBI, BB
Sebastian Valle - 2 for 5, R, 2B, HR, K (passed ball)
Zach Collier - 1 for 4, R, BB, 2 K
Anthony Hewitt - 1 for 3, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB, K
Tyson Gillies - 2 for 3, 2B, 3B, RBI, 2 BB
Yowza! Talk about feasting on pitching...these guys had 2nds and 3rds on Saturday night. Maikel Franco (savior) continues to dazzle in AA. Hewitt now has 3 HR in his past two games. Reading takes 2 of 3 from Richmond.
Clearwater, Lakeland (6/21 Rained out)
Lakeland 13, Clearwater 11 (6/22)
Ethan Stewart - 2.2 IP, 2 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 7 BB, 2 K, 3 GB, 2 FB
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 5, 2 R, RBI, BB, 3 K
Kelly Dugan - 1 for 4, R, 2 RBI , K
Chris Serritella - 3 for 5, 2B, 3 RBI
Harold Martinez - 3 for 5, 3 R, 3 2B, K
Slugfest! ERA's were demolished in this game and the end result didn't favor Clearwater.
Clearwater 1, Tampa 0 (6/23)
Mario Hollands - 8 IP, 3 H, BB, 3 K, 8 GB, 7 FB
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 4, 2B, 3 K
Kelly Dugan - 0 for 4, 2 K
Chris Serritella - 0 for 4
Harold Martinez - 2 for 4
Apparently they used up all their hits and runs on Saturday. Nevertheless, the Threshers pulled out a win behind a solid effort from Hollands (who wound up with a no decision). Clearwater won the game on a bottom of the 9th walkout sacrifice fly from Peter Lavin. Yay!
West Virginia 11, Lakewood 7 (6/21)
Jonathan Musser - 4 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 HR, 5 GB, 4 FB
Roman Quinn - 1 for 4, R, BB
Brian Pointer - 1 for 5, R, 2 K
Mitch Walding - 1 for 5, R, 2B, RBI, 3 K (fielding error)
Larry Greene - 2 for 5, 2 R, 2B, RBI, K
Carlos Tocci - 0 for 2, RBI
Musser and Geoff Broussard gave up all 11 runs (all earned) on a combined 10 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings. The offense couldn't contend with that.
West Virginia 8, Lakewood 2 (6/22)
Yoel Mecias - 3.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 8 K, 2 GB, 1 FB
Roman Quinn - 0 for 4, 2K
Brian Pointer - 1 for 3, 2B, BB
Mitch Walding - 1 for 4, R, K
Larry Greene - 2 for 4, K
Zach Taylor - 0 for 4, 2K
In Mecias' shortest outing of the year, he matched his season high in strikeouts. The Blue Claws continue to flounder and have far and few between even games.
West Virginia 8, Lakewood 0 (6/23)
Miguel Nunez - 5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 1 ER, BB, 6 K, 2 GB, 4 FB
Roman Quinn - 0 for 4, 1 K
Brian Pointer - 1 for 2, 2 BB
Mitch Walding - 0 for 4, 2 K
Larry Greene - 2 for 4, K
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 2, BB
You just have to start feeling bad. They are 2-8 in their last 10 games and 14 games back of the league leader. It is going to be a long season in Lakewood.
Jamestown 8, Williamsport 3 (6/21)
Jon Prosinski - 0.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, K, HR
Zach Green - 0 for 4, R, 3 K
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 3, R, BB
Andrew Knapp - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 4, R, 2B, 2 RBI, K
You aren't going to win too many games when your starter can't get out of the 1st....and when your bullpen gives up 5 runs on top of the 3 you have already let up.
Williamsport 10, Jamestown 4 (6/22)
Mitch Gueller - 5 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, HR, 5 GB, 3 FB
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 4, R, 2 RBI, K
Zach Green - 2 for 3, 2 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB, K, SB (throwing error)
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 4, K, SB
Gabriel Lino - 0 for 4, K
Seems like Gueller is one of the few pitching options Williamsport might have this season. Zach Green had a monster game and Knapp is slowly becoming one of my favorite prospects to watch. It's great to see how well he has transitioned to the pros.
Williamsport 7, Batavia 1 (6/23)
Drew Anderson - 6 IP, 0 H, 2 BB, 5 K, 5 GB, 7 FB
Andrew Knapp - 0 for 3, R, BB, 3 K
Zach Green - 1 for 3, 2B, 3 RBI, BB, K
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 4, 2 K
The Crosscutters took a collective no-hit bid into the 9th with 2 outs before giving up a solo shot. It was the first dominant outing from a Williamsport pitching this season (albeit a small sample size). Zach Green had quite the hot weekend at the plate.
