Most fans I know would be delighted if their team faced the unbelievably bad Marlins. I know that feeling well. I used to feel that way when the Phillies would face the Astros. But what I had to learn is that some teams are so bad, so desperately terrible, so incredibly inept, that it spreads. It sneakily takes over your team until all of a sudden you lose an important late season series to the Astros (Which year? Pick one, it's happened more than once!) and you're just disgusted with everything.
When the Astros moved to the American League, I thought that was over. Then the Marlins reared their incompetent head... or fin... and became the new nightmare. Losing to them is embarrassing. So why does it seem like the Phillies do that all the time?
What an uplifting start to this three game series with the Marlins! Tonight, Kyle Kendrick will try to build upon his last start, which was decent. His two starts before that? Not so much. Kendrick will face off against Tom Koehler, who is a pitcher on the Marlins. That's about as much as I can tell you about him without making stuff up. (He enjoys breeding piranhas, making his own moonshine, and the paintings of French impressionist Claude Monet.)
