Phillies Minor League Roundup, June 28-30, 2013

USA TODAY Sports

Lehigh Valley 6, Durham 5 (June 28 1st game of doubleheader)

Carlos Zambrano - 2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 1 ER, BB, K, 5 GB
Cesar Hernandez - 1 for 3, 2 K
Cody Asche - 2 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, K
Darin Ruf - 2 for 3, R, 2 RBI
Cameron Rupp - 0 for 2, BB, 2 K
Mike MacDougal - 2 IP, 2 H, 2 BB
Mauricio Robles - 1 IP, 0 R

Zambrano leaves the game with an injury and leaves it up to the bullpen. Apparently former big league closer Mike MacDougal joined the team when I wasn't looking and earned the win. Nice games from Asche and Ruf.

Lehigh Valley 2, Durham 1 (June 28 2nd game of doubleheader)

Cesar Hernandez - 0 for 3, R, SB
Cody Asche - 1 for 2, R, K, SB
Darin Ruf - 1 for 3, 2B, RBI

The 2nd game of the doubleheader was a bullpen game for the Iron Pigs and held on to win despite a shaky 9th.

Lehigh Valley 10, Toledo 6 (June 29)

Tyler Cloyd - 6.1 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 7 GB, 5 FB
Freddy Galvis - 0 for 5, BB (fielding error)
Cesar Hernandez - 4 for 5, R, RBI
Cody Asche - 2 for 5, 2B, K
Darin Ruf - 1 for 4, K
Cameron Rupp - 1 for 4, 2 R, HR, BB, K

Tyler Cloyd is broken....blah blah blah.

Lehigh Valley 5, Toledo 0 (June 30)

Ethan Martin - 8 IP, 2 H, 3 BB, 2 K, 12 GB, 5 FB
Freddy Galvis - 0 for 4, RBI, K
Cesar Hernandez - 2 for 4, R, RBI, CS
Cody Asche - 2 for 3, BB, K, SB
Darin Ruf - 1 for 3, 2B, RBI, BB, K

"Good" Martin showed up! The strikeouts are low, but hey...he induced a lot of groundball outs. On a side note, Darin Ruf had a pretty productive weekend. Barring an injury to someone on the big club, Ruf will continue to wait for another opportunity to showcase his skills.

Reading 6, New Britain 5 (June 28)

Seth Rosin - 7 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 4 K, HR, 7 GB, 8 FB
Tyson Gillies - 4 for 5, 2 R, 2 HR
Zach Collier - 0 for 5, K, SB
Maikel Franco - 1 for 4
Sebastian Valle - 1 for 4, R, K

Seth Rosin out-dueled former (traded) Phillies pitching prospect Trevor May. Franco extends his hitting streak and Tyson Gillies is making some serious noise. Twins super-prospect, Miguel Sano, has a monster game (2 HR).

New Britain 5, Reading 0 (June 29)

Jesse Biddle - 6 IP, 9 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 4 GB, 6 FB
Tyson Gillies - 1 for 4
Maikel Franco - 1 for 4 (throwing error)
Anthony Hewitt - 2 for 4, K

This obviously wasn't a solid effort from Biddle and the offense could do not help in bailing him out..

Reading 8, New Britain 2 (June 30)

Brody Colvin - 8 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 7 GB, 8 FB
Tyson Gillies - 0 for 5, K
Zach Collier - 0 for 4, 2 R, RBI, BB, K
Maikel Franco - 3 for 5, HR, 3 RBI
Anthony Hewitt - 0 for 5, 2 K

Just when you think all is lost with Colvin, he pulls out an effort like this. Perhaps you can attribute some luck, but from the box score it looks as though this was a step in the right direction. Franco is on a heck of a hitting streak stretched between A and AA. Franco watch is in full swing (pun intended).

Brevard County 2, Clearwater 1 (June 28)

Mario Hollands - 7 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 9 K, 7 GB, 3 FB
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 4, K
Kelly Dugan - 2 for 4, K, CS
Tommy Joseph - 0 for 3, K, (two passed balls)
Harold Martinez - 0 for 3

The Threshers lose in no thanks to a noticeable effort from Hollands. Tommy Joseph doesn't seem himself...

Clearwater 3, Daytona 2 (June 29)

Hoby Milner - 6.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 5 K, 7 GB, 7 FB
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 4, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K, CS
Kelly Dugan - 1 for 4, 2 K
Tommy Joseph - 1 for 4, 2B, K
Chris Serritella - 2 for 3, RBI, BB

Joseph picks up just his 2nd hit since in his Clearwater rehab assignment (2 for 32).

Clearwater, Daytona (June 30, rained out/postponed)

West Virginia 8, Lakewood 6 (June 28)

Miguel Nunez - 5 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 6 GB, 2 FB
Larry Greene - 2 for 5, R, 2 K, SB
Mitch Walding - 0 for 2, R, 3 BB, K
Carlos Tocci - 0 for 3, BB (fielding error)

Walding is walking a ton, but isn't hitting a whole lot. Larry Greene with another nice game, though you would like the strikeouts to come down a little. Miguel Nunez has not been a very good pitcher this year and was pegged with the loss.

Lakewood 3, West Virginia 0 (June 29)

Shane Watson - 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K, 8 GB, 3 K, 8 GB, 5 FB (two pick off errors)
Larry Greene - 1 for 3, 2 K, SB
Mitch Walding - 1 for 2, BB, K, SB
Carlos Tocci - 0 for 3, 2 K

Shane Watson has not given up an earned run in his last 3 starts (16 IP). Could he be putting it all together? And now Larry Greene has 4 more stolen bases than he does homers. Wasn't this guy drafted because of his raw power?

West Virginia 5, Lakewood 4 (June 30)

Jeb Stefan - 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 5 K, 1 HR, 2 GB, 5 FB
Larry Greene - 1 for 3, BB, K, CS
Mitch Walding - 0 for 2, 2 BB, 2 K, SB (throwing error)
Carlos Tocci - 2 for 3, R, 2B, RBI

Lakewood loses a heartbreaker by giving up 3 runs in the top of the 9th courtesy of Delvi Francisco. He walks the bases loaded, then a sacrifice fly, error and double later the Blueclaws found themselves down a run.

Williamsport 10, Mahoning Valley 5 (June 28)

Drew Anderson - 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 8 GB, 2 FB
Andrew Pullin - 0 for 4, RBI
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 4, HR, 2 RBI (throwing error)
Zach Green - 1 for 3, 2 R, 2 BB, K
Andrew Knapp - 2 for 3, R, RBI, BB, SB
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 4, HR, 2 RBI, K

Cozens! Blasted his first home run of the year. Lino also hit a dinger. Lino is looking like a possible steal from the Orioles in that Thome trade if he can stick behind the plate.

Mahoning Valley 6, Williamsport 2 (June 29)

Josh Warner - 5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 10 GB, 1 FB
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 4, K
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 4, 2 K
Zach Green - 0 for 4, 2 K (fielding error)
Andrew Knapp - 2 for 4, R, K
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 4, R, K

The classic let down game after an offensive barrage in the previous game. Josh Warner pitches a damn good game with an impressive GB/FB ratio, but was stuck with the loss.

Williamsport 4, Mahoning Valley 3 (June 30)

Shane Martin - 6 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, HR, 8 GB, 2 FB
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 4
Dylan Cozens - 2 for 4, K
Zach Green - 1 for 4, R, 2B (fielding error)
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 3, BB, SB
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 4, R, K

So I guess this Andrew Knapp kid is adjusting well huh? This weekend he goes 5 for 10 with 2 stolen bases all while doing this as a rookie in the NY/Penn League. You can call him my most intriguing prospect from this year's draft.

GCL Tigers 7, GCL Phillies 2 (June 28)

Alejandro Arteaga - 4.1 IP, 12 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 2 K, HR, 3 GB, 4 FB
JP Crawford - 1 for 2, SB
Jiwan James - 2 for 4, R, 3B, HR, 2 RBI, K
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 1
Jose Pujols - 0 for 4, 2 K

GCL Phillies, GCL Tigers (June 29, Postponed due to rain)

GCL Phillies, GCL Tigers (June 30, Did Not Play)
