Lehigh Valley 6, Pawtucket 1
Tyler Cloyd - 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 4 K, 12 GB, 4 FB
Cesar Hernandez - 3 for 5, 3 R, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI, K
Freddy Galvis - 3 for 3, 2B, RBI
Cody Asche - 0 for 5, 2 RBI, K (fielding error)
Leandro Castro - 1 for 4, K
Cameron Rupp - 1 for 3, R, BB, K
Jeremy Horst - 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, K
This was Cloyd's first start since May 3 where he has given up less than 5 runs. First start since he hasn't walked anyone since June 17. This looked like vintage 2012 Cloyd with the high groundball outs and low strikeout totals. All-Star Cesar Hernandez with a monster of a game. Galvis has been hitting the ball well lately. In his last 10 games he is batting .325 with a home run and 4 RBI. Meanwhile, the Iron Pigs have taken the first 3 games of a 4 game series against the best team in the North Division. They have climbed to only 1 game back in the wildcard race and 4 games back in the division. They close out the series with Pawtucket tonight.
Brevard County 10, Clearwater 2
Ethan Stewart - 3 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 1 GB, 1 FB
Jiwan James - 0 for 5, K
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 4, K
Chris Serritella - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Cameron Perkins - 1 for 4, RBI, 2 K
Harold Martinez - 1 for 4, K
Thresher bats were silenced and arms were lit up. Wasn't a pretty outing for anyone in particular from the Clearwater staff. Jiwan James continues his comeback trail from injury.
Lakewood 5, Rome 3
Miguel Nunez - 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, K, 7 GB, 3 FB
Brian Pointer - 1 for 4, R, 3B, SB
Angel Mora - 2 for 4, R, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K
Willie Carmona - 2 for 4, R, 2 2B
Larry Greene - 0 for 4, 2 K
Jonathan Roof - 2 for 4, R, RBI, K
Mitch Walding - 0 for 1, 3 BB, K (fielding error)
Carlos Tocci - 0 for 4, RBI, 2 K
A good performance from the pitching staff, while the hitters did their job. Pointer steals his 20th base on the season. Walding commits his 19th error, though he continues to rack up walks.
Williamsport 3, Auburn 1
Julio Reyes - 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 3 K, 4 GB, 3 FB
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 4, RBI, K, CS, picked off
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 4, R, SB
Zach Green - 1 for 4, 2 K
Andrew Knapp - 0 for 4, 2 K
Gabriel Lino - 0 for 2, 2 BB
Logan Pierce - 0 for 1, BB, 2 HBP
Samuel Hiciano - 2 for 3, HR, 2 RBI
In his first two starts on the season Julio Reyes has pitched extremely well. He has given up a combined 4 hits and 3 walks in those starts while striking out 9 in 9 innings. Andrew Knapp since coming back from injury has gone 0 for 7 with 5 strikeouts. He will look to get back into a rhythm hopefully.
GCL Phillies 8, GCL Blue Jays 7
Elniery Garcia - 2.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 4 GB, 0 FB
JP Crawford - 2 for 5, R, 2B, CS
Jay Hernandez - 1 for 1, R, 2 BB
Cord Sandberg - 2 for 4, R, RBI, 2 K
Wilmer Oberto - 2 for 4, R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB
Jose Pujols - 1 for 5, R, 2B, RBI, 2 K
Herlis Rodriguez - 2 for 3, 3 RBI, K, CS, picked off
GCL Phils put up a 5 spot in the first inning, but slowly the game got closer and the GCL Blue Jays eventually tied it in the top of the 7th. The Phils would go up in the bottom of the 8th and hold on to win. The bats certainly came alive in this game. You really have to be impressed with first round pick JP Crawford. He is 15 for 33 in his first 8 games as an 18 year old. Granted most of these kids are the same age, but I like what I can see so far from the boxscore. Crawford's most glaring deficiency so far is his baserunning decisions, which is certainly something that is teachable.
