Lehigh Valley 9, Pawtucket 5
Ethan "Good" Martin - 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 8 K, HR, 3 GB, 5 FB
Cesar Hernandez - 1 for 6, R, 2B, RBI, 2 K
Freddy Galvis - 1 for 3, HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB, K
Cody Asche - 5 for 5, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI, SB
Tyson Gillies - 3 for 4, 3 R, 3B, BB, SB
Phillipe Aumont - 1 IP, 0 R, BB
Iron Pigs sweep the 4 game series versus 1st place Pawtucket in pretty convincing fashion. They outscored the Boston affiliate 26-8 in those games and have moved into a tie for the wildcard. Martin with a commanding game, with his only mistake really coming from a 2 run homer off of Red Sox super-prospect Xander Bogaerts. Asche with a 5 hit game in which he smashes a 2 run homer. Tyson Gillies also with a 2 run shot.
Brevard County 4, Clearwater 2
Mario Hollands - 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 9 K, 6 GB, 3 FB
Carlos Alonso - 1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, BB, K
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 4, RBI, BB, 2 K
Chris Serritella - 0 for 3, BB, K
Cameron Perkins - 0 for 3, BB
Hollands with a brilliant game and in his last 4 starts has only given up a combined 4 runs (30.1 IP) while striking out 27 and walking only 4. He has lowered his season ERA to 1.94 and is probably ready to make the jump to Reading at some point this year. Hollands was in line for the win until a 3 run inning from the Manatees in the bottom of the 8th courtesy of Thresher pitcher Jordan Guth. Guth gives up a leadoff single, then walks the next 3 batters scoring a run. Another 2 batters would come around to score on an error. Clearwater will look to avoid the sweep tonight.
Lakewood 9, Rome 1
Nic Hanson - 6 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 K, 6 GB, 9 FB
Brian Pointer - 1 for 5, R, 2B, K
Willie Carmona - 2 for 4, RBI
Larry Greene - 2 for 4, 3 R, 2 2B, BB, K
Jonathan Roof - 1 for 2, 3 R, 2B, RBI, BB
Justin Dalles - 2 for 4, R, 2 2B, 5 RBI
All of the sudden Lakewood has found their offensive swagger. During their current 4 game winning streak, they have outscored their opponent 34 to 14. Huge games from Greene, Roof and Dalles (bases loaded/clearing double). This was Hanson's first start since coming back from injury, but he fared pretty well. Lakewood still isn't a very good team, but these last few games have been good to see.
Connecticut 5, Williamsport 4
Shane Martin - 4.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 8 GB, 3 FB
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 5, RBI, 2 K
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 5, K
Zach Green - 2 for 4, 2 R, 2B, BB, SB
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 3, RBI, BB
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 5, 2 K (passed ball)
Logan Pierce - 1 for 5, RBI
Things weren't going great until Williamsport tied it up in the top of the 9th courtesy of a Knapp RBI single and a wild pitch that allowed pinch runner Gustavo Martinez to score. The Crosscutters would eventually go on to lose in the bottom of the 11th. Felix Santos loads the bases on a single, double and intentional walk before allowing a sac fly to end the game.
GCL Yankees1 4, GCL Phillies 1
Ranfi Casimiro - 5 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 8 GB, 3 FB
JP Crawford - 2 for 4, K
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 4, K (2 fielding errors)
Cord Sandberg - 0 for 3, R, BB, 2 K
Wilmer Oberto - 0 for 2, 2 BB
Jose Pujols - 0 for 3
Starting pitcher Casimiro probably deserved a better fate, but the Phillies offense couldn't muster anything. JP Crawford was the lone highlight with a 2 hit game. GCL Phillies had no extra base hits in this game. Jan Hernandez continues to struggle at the plate. I've noticed they have used him everywhere in the lineup to start the season, but nothing has seemed to work thus far.
