So, how's about we discuss origins and current locations?
I was born in New Jersey, and northern-ish New Jersey at that, likely doomed to be a Mets fan. But, my parents in their infinite wisdom, moved us to the Delaware Valley, and after bouncing around a bit, I settled about 45 minutes north of Philadelphia. That solidified my sports allegiances, so that while I was in Brooklyn getting my MA, I still didn't make the plunge into dreaded Yankeeism.
Now, I'm getting my PhD in Chicago, and I'm two blocks south of Wrigley Field (WetLuzinski was just here and can vouch for the proximity, as can one Liz Roscher). Obviously, being a National League sort of fellow, I can't root for the Cubs...not that there's anything really to root for these days. So I toyed with the idea of following the White Sox.
I'm sure our very own HappyHuman, who splits their loyalties between the Phils and the Pale Hose, can tell more eloquently the joy there is in following the White Sox recently. Suffice it to say, with apologies to Hawk Harrelson, they seem to lack a positive quotient of TWTW. But I think of them, even when I don't watch them, as my adoptive team; I'm excited for their rebuild and interested in where it's going.
But I mean, come on -- I'm basically working a second job about the Phillies at this point. My loyalties aren't quite divided. Still, the very idea of the Sox coming into Philly is poignant in a kind of way. Like a reverse analogy or some sort of dark homecoming. Weird. I hope someone wins, at least.
Discuss the variegated twists and turns of your life below. Also, discuss how we can trade for more TWTW.
And your soundtrack of rainy nostalgia, of course.
