Phillies Minor League Roundup, July 18, 2013

Clearwater was postponed due to rain.

Elsa

Columbus 3, Lehigh Valley 2

Ethan Martin - 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, 5 GB, 3 FB
Mauricio Robles - 1 IP, 0 R
Phillippe Aumont - 1 IP, 0 R, BB, 2 K
Cesar Hernandez - 2 for 4, RBI, SB (fielding error, oh noes)
Freddy Galvis - 0 for 3, BB
Leandro Castro - 0 for 4, 2 K
Cameron Rupp - 1 for 3, R, 2B, 2 K
Tyson Gillies - 0 for 3 (outfield assist)

Poor Martin...pitches a good game and still gets saddled with the loss. A costly fielding error from Hernandez (gasp!) in the 3rd allowed an unearned run to score, which wound up being the difference in this one. Cesar is still learning CF and these errors can be expected. On a positive note, his bat hasn't slowed all that much and he also stole his 28th base for Lehigh.

Reading 7, Portland 5

Jesse Biddle - 7 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 8 GB, 3 FB
Zach Collier - 1 for 4, R, 2B, BB
Maikel Franco - 3 for 5 (fielding error)
Jim Murphy - 2 for 4, 2B, BB
Kelly Dugan - 2 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, BB
Sebastian Valle - 2 for 4, 2 HR, 5 RBI

Exactly what you want to see from Biddle. K/9 of 9.00 and kept the ball on the ground for the most part. Franco with his first multi-hit game since July 7 (his AA average is .389 still!). Valle with 2 homers as he keeps displaying that he does still indeed have power. His plate discipline and overall ball contact is still horrendous.

Augusta 8, Lakewood 0

Jonathan Musser - 5 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 3 GB, 8 FB
Brian Pointer - 0 for 4, K (fielding error and outfield assist)
Mitch Walding - 0 for 4, 3 K
Jonathan Roof - 0 for 4
Willie Carmona - 0 for 4, 2 K
Larry Greene - 0 for 2, BB, K
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 3

This is a game that Lakewood would be better to soon forget. Musser was lit up like a Christmas tree and the Lakewood offense was 2 hit for 9 innings. The opposing pitcher Joan Gregorio went 7 innings of no-hit ball and struck out 10 (1 walk) before being pulled.

Hudson Valley 8, Williamsport 4

Mitch Gueller - 0.0 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, HR
Andrew Pullin - 0 for 4 (fielding error)
Andrew Knapp - 0 for 3, K (picked off)
Zach Green - 1 for 4, 2 R, HR, K
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 1, R, 2 BB, K, CS
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 3, R, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K (fielding error)
Logan Pierce - 1 for 3, RBI, K (picked off)

Talk about a bad game. I just hope Gueller doesn't get stuck in this moment and won't get out of it (bad U2 song reference). Zach Green with his 5th homer and now sits 1 off the league leader (3 players tied with 6).

GCL Phillies 14, GCL Astros 2

Alejandro Arteaga - 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 3 K, HR
Herlis Rodriguez - 2 for 2, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, BB
Robinson Torres - 1 for 4, 3 R, 2B, 2 BB
JP Crawford - 3 for 5, 3 RBI
Wilmer Oberto - 1 for 6, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI, 3 K
Nick Ferdinand - 1 for 4, R
Jose Pujols - 1 for 4, HR 2 RBI, 2 BB
Jan Hernandez - 2 for 6, 2 K

Apparently there isn't a mercy rule in the GCL. Arteaga held his own, while the offense EXPLODED. Rodriguez, Oberto and Pujols(!!!!) with big homers. Oberto has now homered in 3 straight games (4 homers total) and leads the GCL. Crawford continued to hit and is batting a cool .400 through 15 games (55 AB) and that my friends leads the entire GCL as well.
