Columbus 7, Lehigh Valley 2 (July 19)
Raul Valdes - 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 5 K, 7 GB, 4 FB
Cesar Hernandez - 1 for 4, 2 K
Freddy Galvis - 2 for 4, RBI
Cody Asche - 0 for 4
Leandro Castro - 1 for 4, R, 3 K (outfield assist)
Cameron Rupp - 2 for 4, K
Tyson Gillies - 2 for 3, R, 2B, RBI, SB
Despite 10 hits, the Iron Pigs offense was stifled by Clipper pitchers head by former MLBer, Daisuke Matsuzaka. Raul Valdes with another great game. Kind of unbelievable to see Valdes pitch like this considering his struggles with the Phillies earlier this season.
Columbus 1, Lehigh Valley 0 (July 20)
Tyler Cloyd - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Mauricio Robles - 2 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, K
Phillippe Aumont - 2 IP, BB, 5 K
Cesar Hernandez - 1 for 5, BB, K
Freddy Galvis - 0 for 6, 3 K
Cody Asche - 1 for 5, K
Leandro Castro - 1 for 5, K (outfield assist)
Tyson Gillies - 1 for 5, 3 K (fielding error)
This game saw a contest between Cloyd and former Phillie Carlos Carrasco. Both didn't pitch any longer than two innings in what I'm guessing was rain shortened? Either way, the game went into extras and was finally decided in the top of the 13th inning with a leadoff home run off Justin Friend.
Lehigh Valley 2, Columbus 1 (July 21)
Greg Smith - 8 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, BB, 2 K, 8 GB, 8 FB
Cesar Hernandez - 2 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, SB
Freddy Galvis - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI, K, SB, CS
Cody Asche - 1 for 4, K
Leandro Castro - 0 for 3, K
Cameron Rupp - 0 for 3, 2 K
Since making it as a full-time starter 3 starts ago, Greg Smith has gone 20.1 innings of 2 R (1 ER) ball. Pretty impressive for a guy that doesn't strike anyone out. Reminds me of Tyler Cloyd circa 2012. Lehigh salvages the series winning the finale and snaps a 6 game losing streak. Asche with a pretty awful weekend series. Hernandez with no errors on the weekend (don't know how many mis-judged balls though). Lehigh sits 5.5 games back in the division and 1.5 back in the wild card. They have a 4 game series with Rochester.
Reading 4, Portland 3 (July 19)
David Buchanan - 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 K, HR, 7 GB, 3 FB
Zach Collier - 1 for 4, HR, BB, 2 K
Maikel Franco - 3 for 5, 2 R, 2B, RBI, K
Kelly Dugan - 3 for 4, RBI
Anthony Hewitt - 0 for 4, 3 K
Sebastian Valle - 0 for 4
Reading with a nice win here. Buchanan pitched well enough behind good games from both Franco and Dugan.
Portland 5, Reading 1 (July 20)
Austin Wright - 6.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HR, 5 GB, 5 FB
Brody Colvin - 1 IP, H, K
Zach Collier - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Maikel Franco - 0 for 4
Jim Murphy - 1 for 4, HR, K
Kelly Dugan - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Sebastian Valle - 1 for 3, K
Anthony Hewitt - 0 for 3, 3 K (throwing error)
Jim Murphy with his 19th home run on the season. He is just 3 home runs shy of tying his personal best of 22 he had with Lakewood in 2011. Reading loses the game as the offense couldn't muster up any offense. Opposing pitcher Matt Barnes goes 7 innings giving up only 3 hits, 3 walks and striking out 10 batters. Brody Colvin looks to have moved to the bullpen. Not sure if it's permanent, but probably should be.
Portland 7, Reading 5 (July 21)
Mario Hollands - 5 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 2 HR, 6 GB, 1 FB
Zach Collier - 1 for 5, 2 K, SB
Maikel Franco - 0 for 4
Kelly Dugan - 1 for 4, R, 2B
While deserving of a promotion, Hollands is struggling as a starter in AA. He was hit around in his first game and was absolutely destroyed in his second. Franco goes hitless (8 AB) for the second game in a row, but still refuses to strike out or walk. In 108 at bats, he has 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. Those numbers are pretty unreal as you'd expect one of those numbers to be much higher than the other at this point. Reading splits the 4 game series.
Clearwater 4, Bradenton 3 (July 19, Game 1)
Hoby Milner - 5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, HR, 1 GB, 3 FB
Jiwan James - 2 for 4, 2 H, SB
Matt Tolbert - 2 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, K, SB
Cameron Perkins - 2 for 3, R, RBI, BB (outfield assist)
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 3, 2B, RBI, K
Milner gets his 9th win on the season while Tolbert and Perkins keep on hitting.
Bradenton 10, Clearwater 1 (July 19, Game 2)
Luis Paulino - 2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, K, 0 GB, 3 FB
Cameron Perkins - 0 for 3, K (fielding error)
Chris Serritella - 0 for 3, K
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 3, K
Yikes! Bullpen game for the 2nd game of the doubleheader and it didn't go well.
Clearwater 9, Bradenton 8 (July 20)
Nick Hernandez - 4.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 6 GB, 5 FB
Jiwan James - 2 for 5, R, 2B, SB
Matt Tolbert - 2 for 6, R, 2 RBI, K, SB
Cameron Perkins - 1 for 6, RBI, K
Chris Serritella - 2 for 5, 2 R, BB
Aaron Altherr - 3 for 5, R, 3B, 2 RBI
What a game! Clearwater pitcher Colton Murray gives up 3 in the bottom of the 9th to tie it up. The game would go onto the top of the 11th before a Perkins RBI single would put them ahead and go on to win.
Jupiter 1, Clearwater 0 (July 21)
Perci Garner - 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 14 GB, 0 FB
Jiwan James - 1 for 4
Matt Tolbert - 2 for 3, BB
Cameron Perkins - 0 for 3, K
Chris Serritella - 0 for 4, K
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 3, BB, K
Perci Garner with an exceptional game. A missed catch by Logan Moore costs the Threshers. The lineup goes hot and cold. Matt Tolbert, however remains hot and is batting .417/475/.444 in his last 10 games. He has mainly been playing 3rd base. After the loss, Clearwater remains 3.5 games out of 1st place.
Lakewood 3, Augusta 2
Jon Prosinski - 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 4 K, 6 GB, 2 FB
Brian Pointer - 2 for 5, 2B, K
Larry Greene - 2 for 3, R, BB
Willie Carmona - 1 for 3, HR, 2 RBI, BB, K
Jonathan Roof - 0 for 3, BB, CS
Mitch Walding - 2 for 4, R
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 3, BB
Lakewood was looking at a loss before scoring 3 in the top of the 9th to go ahead. The Blueclaws would go on to win the game. The 2 run homer from Carmona tied the game at 2 before an RBI single from Chad Carman scored Mitch Walding.
Lakewood 10, Rome 9 (July 20)
Miguel Nunez - 4.1 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 7 GB, 3 FB
Brian Pointer - 0 for 4, R, K (outfield assist)
Angelo Mora - 3 for 5, 2 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, K, SB, CS
Larry Greene - 2 for 5, R, 2B, RBI, 2 K
Willie Carmona - 2 for 5, 2 R, K
Mitch Walding - 2 for 4, R, RBI, BB, K
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 5, R, RBI
Blueclaws explode for an 8 run 2nd inning. Despite a scare in the bottom of the 9th, the Clueclaws would hold on to win.
Rome 3, Lakewood 2 (July 21)
Nic Hanson - 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 10 GB, 5 FB
Brian Pointer - 1 for 4, 2B, 2 K, SB
Larry Greene - 2 for 3, RBI, BB, K
Willie Carmona - 0 for 4
Jonathan Roof - 0 for 2, BB
Mitch Walding - 0 for 4
Carlos Tocci - 0 for 4, R
Lakewood loses in the bottom of the 9th courtesy of reliever Lino Martinez and a Angelo Mora throwing error. Lakewood has been playing much better baseball this month, but still sit so far out of any playoff contention.
Williamsport 4, Hudson Valley 2 (July 19)
Drew Anderson - 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, K, HR, 4 GB, 6 FB
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 4, R
Zach Green - 1 for 3, R, BB
Dylan Cozens - 3 for 4, R, 2B, 2 RBI, K
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 4, HR, 2 RBI
Gabriel Lino homers in the bottom of the 8th to put the Crosscutters ahead. Drew Anderson pitches ease and his only mistake came off a 2 run home run.
Lowell 6, Williamsport 2 (July 20)
Yacksel Rios - 3 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 4 GB, 1 FB
Gustavo Martinez - 2 for 4, R, K, SB
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 4
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 4, RBI, K, CS
Zach Green - 1 for 3, R, BB, K
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K (outfield assist)
Logan Pierce - 1 for 4, K
Jiandido Tromp - 2 for 4, 2B, 3B, RBI
Rios struggles in his 2nd start on the season as Williamsport falls to the Spinners.
Williamsport 2, Lowell 1 (July 21)
Julio Reyes - 3.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 4 GB, 1 FB
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 4, BB, K
Zach Green - 0 for 5
Gabriel Lino - 3 for 5, 2 R, 2B, HR, K
Logan Pierce - 0 for 4, BB, 2 K
Jiandido Tromp - 1 for 3, 2 BB, K, SB
The game goes to extras and a costly error in the bottom of the 12th allows for a walk-off victory for the Crosscutters. Gabriel Lino continues to look like a steal from Baltimore in the trade that sent Jim Thome away. Williamsport remains 2.5 games out of first.
GCL Braves 8, GCL Phillies 6 (July 19)
Jesen Therrien - 3 IP, 6 H, 8 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, K, 4 GB, 2 FB
Steve Golden - 1 for 2, R, RBI, BB, K
JP Crawford - 1 for 5 (fielding error)
Wilmer Oberto - 2 for 5, R, 3B, 2 RBI
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 4, R, RBI, BB, K (outfield assist)
Jose Pujols - 0 for 2, 2 R, 2 BB
Jan Hernandez - 1 for 4, RBI, 2 K
A costly Crawford error didn't help an uneven effort from Therrien. Sandberg continues to show a strong arm in the outfield. Wilmer Oberto continues to mash the ball to the point where he will be seriously considered to make the jump to Williamsport or Lakewood.
GCL Phillies 4, GCL Braves 3 (July 20)
Ranfi Casimiro - 5 IP, 5 H, 0 R, BB, 6 K, 5 GB, 2 FB
JP Crawford - 2 for 4, 2B, BB
Wilmer Oberto - 0 for 3, R, RBI, K
Nick Ferdinand - 2 for 4, 2B, 2 RBI
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 3, BB, K, CS, picked off
Casimiro has easily been the GCL Phils best starter and is among league leaders in ERA. He WHIP is still a bit high, but he continues to show some promise.
