This past weekend against the Mets, the Phillies sent Kyle Kendrick, Cole Hamels, and Cliff Lee to the mound. Those three are also known as the top section of the Phillies starting rotation. The results were, to put it mildly, not great. That was disappointing because, as I mentioned, it was the top part of their rotation and they were facing the Mets. The Phillies *probably* hoped to do better than 1-2, and they also probably didn't want Kyle Kendrick to play so fast and loose with their 11-run lead in game one.
The next six games see the Phillies facing the Cardinals and the Tigers, two of the toughest teams in baseball. The Phillies get things started against the Cardinals tonight by sending Jonathan Pettibone to the mound to face off against Shelby Miller. People say that there's nowhere to go but up or down. They're wrong. In this case, the only way through is forward.
