Phillies Minor League Roundup, July 23, 2013

GCL Phillies were postponed due to rain.

US PRESSWIRE

Lehigh Valley 8, Rochester 1

Ethan Martin - 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 6 K, 6 GB, 2 FB (pickoff error)
Mauricio Robles - 1 IP, 0 R, 2 BB
Cesar Hernandez - 2 for 4, R, RBI
Freddy Galvis - 2 for 5, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K
Cody Asche - 3 for 5, 2 HR, 3 RBI
Cameron Rupp - 1 for 3, HR, BB, K
Tyson Gillies - 1 for 3, R, 2B, BB

Ethan Martin out-pitches former MLBer Nick Blackburn and Asche blasts two home runs in the game. I think this Asche kid should probably be playing for the big club right about now. Just sayin...

Binghamton 6, Reading 3

Jesse Biddle - 0.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, K
Brody Colvin - 4.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, K, 6 GB, 4 FB
Zach Collier - 0 for 5, K
Maikel Franco - 2 for 4, R, RBI, BB, K
Kelly Dugan - 2 for 3, 2B, HBP (outfield assist)
Sebastian Valley - 0 for 3, BB, 3 K
Anthony Hewitt - 1 for 4, K

You see a Jesse Biddle / Noah Syndergaard matchup and you think this is going to be an epic duel. Biddle flames out in the 1st inning in what is a very concerning showing. The Met affiliate lineup isn't all that scary, but they chased him early due to extremely poor control on Biddle's part. Syndergaard was extremely effective and shut down the Fightin's. Brody Colvin came in relief and put on his best good Jesse Biddle impression for 4 innings. Franco and Dugan both with two hits. Franco with a walk (!) and Dugan with another outfield assist. Otherwise, this was a disappointing loss.

Clearwater 3, Jupiter 2

Tom Cochran - 4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, K, 3 GB, 7 FB
Jiwan James - 2 for 5, BB, 2 K
Matt Tolbert - 2 for 6, RBI
Cameron Perkins - 0 for 5
Chris Serritella - 2 for 5, HR
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 5, 3 K (outfield assist)
Harold Martinez - 2 for 5, R, 2B, RBI, 2 K

Cochran with a deceiving start. His control was all over the place and induced a lot of fly balls. However, he was quite lucky and only gave up 3 hits. The game went into extras and the Hammerheads nearly went up by 1 in the top of the 13th, but Altherr threw a runner out at home. The Threshers would go on to win in the bottom of the 13th on a walkoff RBI single from Tolbert that would score Harold Martinez.

Rome 5, Lakewood 3

Jonathan Musser - 3.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 5 GB, 2 FB
Brian Pointer - 0 for 2, R, 2 BB, CS (outfield assist)
Angelo Mora - 2 for 4, R
Larry Greene - 0 for 4, K
Willie Carmona - 1 for 4
Art Charles - 1 for 4, HR, 3 RBI, 3 K
Jonathan Roof - 0 for 4, 2 K
Carlos Tocci - 0 for 2, BB, CS

Musser has been out of his league for the entire season as he has been atrocious. Lakewood would have been shutout, but Art Charles hit a 3-run blast in the top of the 9th saved face.

Williamsport 3, Auburn 2

Shane Martin - 5 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 7 K, HR, 4 GB, 3 FB
Gustavo Martinez - 1 for 5, SB (outfield assist)
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 1 (pinch hitter)
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 3, 2 R, BB, K
Zach Green - 2 for 4, RBI, 2 K
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 4, 2 K
Logan Pierce - 0 for 4, RBI, K

Despite going 2 for 11 with RISP, the Crosscutters held onto win. Shane Martin with a good outing and only gave up a solo shot. Gustavo Martinez saved a run for Martin with an outfield assist to get a runner out at home in the first inning.
