Phillies Minor League Roundup, July 24, 2013

Rochester 6, Lehigh Valley 2

Tyler Cloyd - 7 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 6 K, HR, 8 GB, 5 FB
Phillippe Aumont - 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB
Freddy Galvis - 0 for 4, K
Cody Asche - 2 for 4, 2B, K, CS
Steve Susdorf - 1 for 2, RBI
Leandro Castro - 1 for 3, 2B, RBI
Tyson Gillies - 0 for 3, 2 K

The Ironpigs held a 2-1 lead for a majority of the game. Tyler Cloyd pitches one of his best of the season and then gave way to Jay Johnson in the 8th inning. What happens? Here is the sequence: walk, passed ball, single, passed ball (run scores), HBP, walk. The bases are now loaded for our favorite reliever Aumont. He then goes: wild pitch, passed ball, double, sac fly. This allows all of the inherited runners to score, plus one more. A pretty deplorable game which makes me cry after watching most of the Phillies game last night. Oh, Cody Asche had 2 hits. Call him up RAJ. Also, this is a huge series for Lehigh and they will look to go for the series split tonight.

Binghamton 6, Reading 3

David Buchanan - 5 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, HR, 7 GB, 2 FB
Derrick Mitchell - 1 for 3, HR, BB
Maikel Franco - 0 for 4, RBI, K
Kelly Dugan - 0 for 4, K
Sebastian Valle - 1 for 3
Anthony Hewitt - 1 for 3, R, 2B, SB (fielding error)

Reading held the a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the 6th. Buchanan came in and gave up a lead off homer, a double and 2 walks to load the bases. He was replaced by Kyle Simon who then allows all inherited runners to score. The Fightin's wouldn't recover from that inning. Reading loses the series and now opens a four game set with the New Britain Rock Cats. Reading sits at the bottom of the Eastern League standings.

Clearwater 5, Jupiter 2

Ethan Stewart - 4.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 BB, 8 K, 3 GB, 2 FB
Jiwan James - 1 for 4
Peter Lavin - 1 for 3, 3B, BB, K
Cameron Perkins - 0 for 3, R, HBP
Chris Serritella - 1 for 4, R
Brock Stassi - 1 for 3, R, RBI, 2 K
Harold Martinez - 2 for 4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI

When Ethan Stewart wasn't walking a batting, he was striking them out. Truly bizarre line that didn't result in a lot of runs. Stewart hasn't been very good at pitching this year. A big 3 run bottom of the 6th put the Threshers on top for good. Nice to see some power from Martinez.

Auburn 3, Williamsport 2 (Game 1 of doubleheader)

Mitch Gueller - 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 8 GB, 5 FB, WP, 2 HBP
Andrew Knapp - 0 for 1 (pinch hitter)
Dylan Cozens - 2 for 3, R, 2B
Zach Green - 0 for 2, BB, 2 K (fielding error)
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 3, K

Mitch Gueller with a decent start, going the complete shortened 6 inning game. He was tagged with the loss as the Crosscutter offense went 0 for 7 with RISP. It could have been a lot worse for Williamsport as the Doubledays went 1 for 12 with RISP.

Williamsport 4, Auburn 1 (Game 2 of doubleheader)

Chris Nichols - 4 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 4 GB, 3 FB, WP, HBP
Gustavo Martinez - 1 for 4, R, 2B, K (outfield assist)
Malquin Canelo - 2 for 3, R, 2 2B, RBI, K
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 3
Zach Green - 0 for 2, R, BB, K
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 3, R, RBI
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 3
Logan Pierce - 1 for 3, RBI, K

Nichols and the Crosscutter bullpen 3 hit Auburn to go on to win. A big 3 run bottom of the 4th put Williamsport up by 3.

GCL Blue Jays 10, GCL Phillies 9

Elniery Garcia - 3 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 7 GB, 2 FB
Robinson Torres - 3 for 6, 2 RBI, K, CS, picked off (2 throwing errors)
JP Crawford - 1 for 4, R, 3B, 2 BB, 2 K, SB (fielding error)
Wilmer Oberto - 2 for 4, BB, K, HBP
Cord Sandberg - 0 for 3, 2 R, 2 BB, SB
Jose Pujols - 2 for 5, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, 2 K
Trey Williams - 1 for 3, R, 2 BB, 2 K (fielding error)
Jan Hernandez - 1 for 5, 2 R, 2B, RBI, 2 K, 2 SB

This was a wild game. There were 6 lead changes, 15 walked batters and 22 hits between both teams. Teams were a combined 7 for 31 with RISP. Pujols with his 2nd home run in his last 4 games (3 for 15 though...).
