They're (Not) Grrrrrrreat!: Phillies at Tigers Game Thread, July 26, 2013

The lifeless Phillies face one of the best teams in baseball.

Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

I don't think that the addition of the designated hitter is going to be enough to help the Phillies as they face the Detroit Tigers this weekend. Theoretically, the DH enables a National League team to include all its best hitters in the lineup. But when your best hitters include Laynce Nix, who is hitting .188 in 119 plate appearances this season, then...

Yeesh.

The worst the Phillies can do tonight is lose. That's something we're used to. But it's about how they lose. Will it be an embarrassing fiasco? Will they almost win but then suddenly not? Or will they sadly, depressingly plod through every at-bat, every out, every inning?

Oh good Lord please win tonight, Phillies.

Cole Hamels will try to do better than his last outing (which was kind of stinky) and will also try to do better than the Tigers' starter, Doug Fister.
