Cody Asche, Phillies' 3B prospect, was called up today. Ostensibly to sit on the bench tonight and watch leadershippy clubhousey role modely Michael Young play ("play") third base. Or wait, that's probably not right. But he's riding the bench tonight anyway. Put away your swooning fans and handkerchiefs and save them for tomorrow. Or maybe the next night. Or whenever Charlie Manuel decides to start him. What is that you say? He could start if Michael Young is traded? Ha ha ha ho ho ho he he he, you sure are funny. Best piece of comedy I've heard all day!
Tonight is the first game since the Phillies returned from their absolutely abysmal road trip to New York, St. Louis, and recently bankrupt Detroit (the Phillies did not contribute to that, though). And because God has a sense of humor, John Lannan will start tonight. He'll face off against Barry Zito, who has some very interesting splits this season. At home, Zito has a 2.45 ERA. On the road, his ERA jumps to a robust 9.39. 9.39!!!! That is a mighty high ERA. Perhaps the Phillies should look into this and see if there's a way they can use it to their advantage!
