Reading 7, Binghamton 6
Jesse Biddle - 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 9 K, 6 GB, 1 FB
Austin Wright - 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, K, HR
Albert Cartwright - 1 for 4, 2 R, K (fielding error)
Zach Collier - 2 for 3, 2 3B, 2 RBI, BB
Maikel Franco - 1 for 5, 2B, 2 RBI
Jim Murphy - 1 for 3, RBI, BB, K
Kelly Dugan - 1 for 5, 2B, 2 K
Sebastian Valle - 3 for 5, 2 R, 2 2B
Anthony Hewitt - 2 for 2, R, RBI
Jesse Biddle with a pretty okay start. At least, much better than what he has been doing. The strikeouts are a huge plus, but the walks are still a concern. Austin Wright and Colby Shreve blew the game in the 7th allowing 4 runs to score to put Reading down 6-4. A rare sacrifice double play from Jim Murphy would cut the lead down to 6-5 in the bottom of the 8th. In the bottom of the 9th with the bases loaded and 1 out, Anthony Hewitt would single in the tying run. During the next at bat, the Binghamton pitcher would throw a wild pitch allowing the winning run to cross the plate. Quite an exciting finish. Zach Collier with a big game. He has recently stepped up his game and is making a lot more contact with the ball.
Daytona 5, Clearwater 0 (Game 1 of doubleheader)
Nic Hanson - 5.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 3 ER, BB, 2 K, HR, 9 GB, 5 FB
Aaron Altherr - 2 for 3, 2B
Chris Serritella - 0 for 3, K
Cameron Perkins - 0 for 2, BB, K, picked off
Harold Martinez - 2 for 3, 2 2B, K
Nic Hanson's success from Lakewood has yet to transfer over in his first 2 starts with Clearwater. The offense didn't bail him out either. The Threshers went 0 for 8 with RISP.
Clearwater 3, Daytona 2 (Game 2 of doubleheader, makeup of 7/1 ppd)
Mark Leiter - 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 4 K, HR, 3 GB, 5 FB
Carlos Alonso - 1 for 3, 2B, 2 K
Peter Lavin - 1 for 3, R, 2B, K
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 3, K
Chris Serritella - 1 for 2, R, RBI, BB, K
Cameron Perkins - 1 for 3, HR, K
Brock Stassi - 1 for 3, RBI
Quite an impressive Clearwater debut for Mark Leiter. Having spent most of the season in the GCL, he jumps over Williamsport and Lakewood for this opportunity. His only mistake was a HR to Kris Bryant who was the Cubs 1st round pick this year (2nd overall in the draft). So I guess it was quite a debut by both of them. Clearwater wins the 2nd game of the doubleheader that was also highlighted by a Perkins HR. He is having an excellent season, showing some real power potential.
Kannapolis 12, Lakewood 8
Jonathan Musser - 4 IP, 8 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 2 GB, 4 FB
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 5, R, 2B, K
Willie Carmona - 1 for 5, 2B, RBI
Mitch Walding - 2 for 4, 2 R, 3B, BB, K, picked off
Larry Greene - 1 for 3, R, RBI, BB, K
Brian Pointer - 2 for 4, R, RBI, BB, K
Angelo Mora - 1 for 2, 2 R, HR, 2 BB
Pretty awful game for Musser, who hasn't been sharp at all this season. The offense displayed some patience and power with 4 extra base hits and 6 walks, but unfortunately it wasn't enough. These are both really bad teams.
GCL Phillies 9, GCL Yankees1 7
Tyler Viza - 4 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, K, 3 GB, 6 FB
Cord Sandberg - 2 for 3, R, 2 BB, CS
JP Crawford - 0 for 4, BB, 2 K
Wilmer Oberto - 4 for 4, 2 R, 2B, RBI, BB
Jose Pujols - 2 for 5, R, 3B, RBI, 3 K
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 3, R, 2 BB, 2 K
Jair Morelos - 2 for 5, R, 2B, 2 RBI
Trey Williams - 2 for 5, 2 RBI, K
Deivi Grullon - 2 for 3, 2 R, 2B, RBI
Tyler Viza seems to be making a smooth transition to the rotation thus far. The GCL Phils offense continued to surge, collecting 15 hits in this game. Oberto with just an absolute monster game again. Perhaps they need to look at the Williamsport lineup again when they come back from their break to see if he can get any at bats up there.
