Tyler Cloyd is pitching better than the current Phillies rotation for what it's worth.
Tyler Cloyd is pitching better than the current Phillies rotation for what it's worth.
Eric Hartline-US PRESSWIRE

Lehigh Valley 4, Syracuse 1

Tyler Cloyd - 9 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 7 K, HR, 10 GB, 6 GB
Pete Orr - 2 for 4, R, 2B, 2 RBI, CS
Freddy Galvis - 2 for 4, R, K
Steve Susdorf - 2 for 3, BB
Derrick Mitchell - 1 for 3, R, K
Tyson Gillies - 1 for 3, R, K

Umm, who is this Tyler Cloyd and what have you done with our Tyler Cloyd? Jokes are fun, but Cloyd has just been flat out dominant since early July.  With Lannan getting injured last night (what looks to be season ending), Cloyd will most likely get the callup if Pettibone isn't ready by the next turn in the rotation.  Pete Orr has been on fire and has 15 hits in his last 10 games (.349/.364/.488).  Gillies has a 4 game hitting streak going.  Lehigh still sits 1.5 back in the wildcard.

Binghamton 4, Reading 3

Brody Colvin - 4 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 6 BB, 2 K, HR, 5 GB, 5 FB
Albert Cartwright - 1 for 5, R, K
Zach Collier - 1 for 3, R, 2B, RBI, BB, 2 K
Maikel Franco - 2 for 2, RBI, BB, CS (fielding error)
Anthony Hewitt - 1 for 3, BB, K, CS
Sebastian Valle - 1 for 3, K

In an odd boxscore line, Colvin was wildly ineffective, but didn't get demolished as a result of it.  Colvin is likely still pitching at his "mean" and likely won't get much better at this point.  I want him to succeed, but I'm not sure if it will be in this organization.  He likely needs to go somewhere and be under another organization's tutelage to see if he can retool and regroup after the last 3 years.  The game was tied going into the 8th when Kyle Simon gave up the lead.  Franco has a 6 game hitting streak and an 8 game on base streak.

Daytona 5, Clearwater 1 (Game 1 of doubleheader)

Perci Garner - 1.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, HR, 2 GB, 2 FB
Jiwan James - 0 for 3
Carlos Alonso - 2 for 3, 2B
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 2, BB
Chris Serritella - 1 for 3
Cameron Perkins - 0 for 2, BB, K (outfield assist)
Harold Martinez - 2 for 3, R, 2 2B

After a strong first half, Garner has regressed a bit.  He still has massive control issues.  He has an ugly line in this one and was hit with the loss.  Garner gave up a homer to Cubs top prospect Kris Bryant, who now has 2 home runs in his 2 first games since being promoted.  The Thresher offense was a bit quiet and didn't capitalize (1 for 7 RISP).  The outfield defense for Clearwater is really strong.  I'm not sure why baserunners even take chances on those arms.

Clearwater 2, Daytona 0 (Game 2 of doubleheader, makeup of 6/30 ppd)

Luis Paulino - 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 K, 2 GB, 5 FB
Peter Lavin - 1 for 4, R, 3B
Jonathan Roof - 1 for 2, BB, CS
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 2, 2B, RBI, K
Chris Serritella - 0 for 3, K
Cameron Perkins - 1 for 3, 2B, K
Brock Stassi - 2 for 3, 2B
Harold Martinez - 1 for 3, R

What a nice spot start for Paulino.  He got all the offense he needed from a Altherr RBI sac fly in the 3rd.  Harold Martinez remains red hot.  He seems to go through spurts like this throughout the season.  The Threshers are pretty much out of it, but a nice finish would be nice to see.

Kannapolis 10, Lakewood 2

Ryan Demmin - 5 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, BB, 5 K, HR, 3 GB, 2 FB
Alejandro Villalobos - 2 for 4, R, BB, 2 K, SB
Willie Carmona - 1 for 5, 2B, RBI, 2 K
Art Charles - 0 for 3, BB, K, CS
Mitch Walding - 1 for 4, R, 2B (throwing error)
Larry Greene - 1 for 3, BB
Brian Pointer - 0 for 2, 2 BB, SB

Well, the wheels fell of for Demmin kind of fast, huh? After a dominant debut last week, he was destroyed last night.  On a positive note, he is showing decent command and strike out totals.  It was all downhill in a disaster of a 5th inning when he and reliever Delvi Francisco gave up 8 runs, which was the most the Blueclaws have given up in an inning all season.

Auburn 3, Williamsport 0

Julio Reyes - 4 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 4 GB, 3 FB (2 pickoff errors)
Herlis Rodriguez - 0 for 2, BB
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 3, SB, HBP (throwing error)
Zach Green - 0 for 4, 2 K
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 4, K
Logan Pierce - 1 for 4

Julio Reyes with a decent start, but has the same control issues that most of the Phillies prospects seem to have (23 BB in 42 IP).  The strikeouts are still encouraging (37 K).  Herlis Rodriguez makes his NY/Penn League debut after absolutely dominating GCL.  He replaced Gustavo Martinez after 1 inning.  I'm not quite sure the reason for that.  Andrew Knapp gets behind the plate again, but commits an error.  He did steal a base though! His 6th on the season.  Developing power and potential speed/good baserunning from a catching prospect? Sign me up.  Williamsport loses this game despite out hitting Auburn 5-4.

GCL Pirates 5, GCL Phillies 0

Ranfi Casimiro - 4 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 6 GB, 2 FB
Jair Morelos - 1 for 4
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 4
JP Crawford - 0 for 3, BB, K, CS
Nick Ferdinand - 0 for 3, HBP
Wilmer Oberto - 1 for 4, K
Robinson Torres - 2 for 4 (fielding error)
Jose Pujols - 0 for 3

Casimiro's last 4 starts have been disasters, giving up 33 hits in 15 innings and letting up 18 earned runs.  The offense was rather flat this game.  JP Crawford is now hitless in his last 2 games (though he has walked in each game).  Jose Pujols has also cooled off a little.  Despite being 22-24 following the game, the GCL Phils are only 0.5 game out of the division lead (who happen to be the Pirates).  They have 14 games left to play in the season.
