Lehigh Valley 8, Scranton/WB 2
Perci Garner - 5.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 5 GB, 1 FB
Pete Orr - 3 for 5, 3 R, 2B, RBI
Freddy Galvis - 1 for 5, RBI, 2 K
Steve Susdorf - 1 for 4, 2 RBI, K
Cesar Hernandez - 2 for 2, 3 R, 3B, BB, CS
Tyler Henson - 2 for 2, 2B, 2 RBI
Cameron Rupp - 1 for 3, R, K, HBP
Leandro Castro - 2 for 4, 2B, 2 RBI
Perci Garner with an excellent first start in his AAA debut. He would earn the win behind a offensive barrage from lineup. If Cesar Hernandez isn't playing Phillies CF come Sept 1st, I'll be a little upset. Rupp, Galvis and Orr should probably be called up as well. JC Ramirez picks up the save and has been slights out since being sent back down to AAA. Lehigh will go for the series win tonight.
Reading 4, Altoona 2 (Game 1 of doubleheader)
Brody Colvin - 2.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 2 K, 1 GB, 3 FB
Albert Cartwright - 1 for 4, R, 2 K, SB
Zach Collier - 1 for 4, R, 2B, K
Maikel Franco - 1 for 4, R, K
Jim Murphy - 4 for 4, R, 2 RBI
Kelly Dugan - 1 for 4, RBI, 2 K
Sebastian Valle - 1 for 4, RBI, K
Anthony Hewitt - 0 for 2, BB, HBP
Colvin leaves the game after only 46 pitches. I'm not sure if he was moved back to the bullpen or what the reason exactly was for his early departure. The Fightin's would score 2 in the top of the 7th. Franco would reach 1st on a one out error. The next two batters would single (scoring Franco) and a Valle groundout would score the eventual winning run.
Altoona 3, Reading 2 (Game 2 of doubleheader, makeup of 6/6 ppd)
Juan Sosa - 4 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 7 GB, 3 FB
Albert Cartwright - 1 for 3, RBI, K
Zach Collier - 0 for 4, K
Maikel Franco - 1 for 3, HR
Kelly Dugan - 0 for 3, K
Matt Tolbert - 2 for 3
With the promotion of Garner, Sosa got his first start of the season after 38 relief appearances. He wasn't particularly sharp and his swing/miss stuff disappeared. He walks way too many batters (44 in 71 IP). The offense was largely silent. A Franco HR was probably the biggest takeaway. It was his 26th of the season (between A+ & AA). Reading will play Altoona again tonight for game 3 of the 4 game set.
Lakewood 7, Delmarva 4 (Game 1 of doubleheader)
Miguel Nunez - 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 K, HR, 4 GB, 1 FB
Brian Pointer - 1 for 4, RBI, BB, 2 K
JP Crawford - 0 for 3, R, BB
Willie Carmona - 3 for 4, R, 2B, RBI
Mitch Walding - 1 for 2, R, 2 BB (throwing error....his 25th error on the season)
Larry Greene - 1 for 4, R, 2 K
Angelo Mora - 2 for 4, R, 2 RBI, K, 2 SB, CS
Lakewood explodes for a 6 run top of the 5th to take the lead. Miguel Nunez now with 2 high quality starts in a row. He has had an up and down year, but recently has been in an upswing. JP Crawford finally makes his debut with Lakewood. He draws a walk and doesn't strike out.
Lakewood 5, Delmarva 0 (Game 2 of doubleheader, makeup of 8/18 ppd)
Mark Leiter - 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 4 K, 3 GB, 3 FB
Angelo Mora - 1 for 4, R, RBI, K, SB
JP Crawford - 2 for 4, R, RBI, SB
Willie Carmona - 0 for 4, K
Art Charles - 2 for 4, R, 2B, RBI
Mitch Walding - 0 for 4, K
Larry Greene - 1 for 2, R, 2B, RBI, BB, K, CS
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 3
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 2, R, 3B, K, HBP (passed ball)
Anyone else getting excited about Mark Leiter yet? Yes, it's an incredibly small sample size and he has only started 2 games this season, but he has been quite impressive all-around. A guy to keep an eye on throughout the end of the season. Crawford did all he could to add to his hype machine. God I just want this kid to succeed so bad. Larry Greene has been caught stealing more than he has hit home runs this season. Lakewood sweeps Delmarva. Good job Blueclaws.
Williamsport 4, Mahoning Valley 2
Julio Reyes - 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 3 GB, 2 FB
Justin Parr - 2 for 4, R, BB, CS
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI, K (throwing and fielding error)
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 4, 2B (throwing error and 2 passed balls)
Zach Green - 0 for 3, R, 2 K, HBP
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 2, R, RBI, BB, SB
Gustavo Martinez - 2 for 4, R, RBI, SB (outfield assist)
Was the wind swirling or earth shaking in Williamsport yesterday? Both teams combined for 8 errors and 2 passed balls last night. Williamsport would get 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th to take the lead and eventually win. Julio Reyes pitched fairly well and has been extremely consistent all season. A day after catching a no-hitter, Knapp suffers a bit of a setback behind the plate. Cozens has walked 6 times in the past 5 games. He also has 2 SB in that stretch and is hitting 4 for 14 with 8 runs scored. Dylan is up to 22 XBH on the season with 26 RBI, 10 SB and 23 walks (.258/.344/.451 in 53 games 182 AB). I like Cozens a lot.
GCL Phillies 5, GCL Astros 2
Tyler Viza - 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 K, HR, 5 GB, 3 FB
Cord Sandberg - 0 for 4, K
Nick Ferdinand - 1 for 3, R, BB, K
Wilmer Oberto - 1 for 3, R, BB
Robinson Torres - 2 for 4, 2 R, 2B, RBI, K
Deivi Grullon - 2 for 4, R, RBI, K
Jose Pujols - 0 for 2, 2 BB, K
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 1, 2 BB, SB
GCL Phillies continue to roll. Viza has been pretty good since becoming a starter. This was his longest and best outing so far. Ferdinand and Oberto continue to hit the ball. Torres and Grullon have also been hitting the ball really well lately. GCL Phils sit in 1st place in the division with a 1 game lead with 9 games to play.
