Scranton/WB 5, Lehigh Valley 4
Greg Smith - 5 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 K, HR, 7 GB, 2 FB
Joe Savery - 0.1 IP, H, 0 R, BB
Phillipe Aumont - 1.2 IP, H, 0 R, BB, K
Cesar Hernandez - 2 for 6, 2 R
Freddy Galvis - 1 for 4, R, 2B, 2 RBI, K
Tyler Henson - 2 for 6, RBI, 3 K
Leandro Castro - 1 for 5
Cameron Rupp - 1 for 3, K
Derrick Mitchell - 2 for 5, R, 2B, 2 K
Lehigh loses this one in the bottom of the 12th via a passed ball allowing the runner on 3rd to score. Justin Friend gets the loss. Greg Smith wasn't very effective and neither was the now-healthy Joe Savery. Aumont extended his scoreless streak to 5.2 IP, though during that time he has only struck out 3 and walked 3 batters. Cesar keeps hitting and is a foregone conclusion to be called up depending on whether the IronPigs make the playoffs or not. They remain 3.5 games out. It's not looking good.
Richmond 1, Reading 0
Jesse Biddle - 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 7 BB (!!!!), 4 K, 4 GB, 0 FB
Zach Collier - 1 for 2, 2 BB, SB
Maikel Franco - 2 for 4, K
Kelly Dugan - 0 for 4, K
Anthony Hewitt - 1 for 4, K
Sebastian Valle - 0 for 3 (passed ball)
Really Biddle? His second 7 walk game of the season. He was pulled from the game after walking 4 straight batters. It was the only run he gave up and even struck out 4 in 3 IP. Juan Sosa and Kyle Simon pitch 6 innings of scoreless relief with 7 strikeouts. The offense was stifled by Richmond pitching and only put together 4 hits (no extra base hits). Franco collects another 2 hits.
Tampa 2, Clearwater 0 (Game 1 of doubleheader)
Ethan Stewart - 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 3 GB, 8 FB
Jiwan James - 1 for 3, 2B
Carlos Alonso - 1 for 3, CS
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 3, 2 K
Chris Serritella - 0 for 3, K
Cameron Perkins - 1 for 3
Brock Stassi - 1 for 3, SB
Harold Martinez - 1 for 3
Stewart pitches a pretty good game, but loses because of the offense's failure to score any runs. 7 of the 9 batters in the lineup with hits, but leave 6 on base and are 1 for 7 with RISP.
Tampa 2, Clearwater 0 (Game 2 of doubleheader, makeup of 8/22 ppd)
Alejandro Arteaga - 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K, 6 GB, 4 FB
Jiwan James - 0 for 5, 2 K
Peter Lavin - 0 for 2, 2 BB
Aaron Altherr - 3 for 4, SB, CS, picked off
Chris Serritella - 1 for 4
Carlos Alonso - 0 for 2, BB, HBP
Brock Stassi - 1 for 4, 2B, 2 K
Harold Martinez - 2 for 4, K
Well this one had a pretty similar outcome, didn't it? Arteaga was fantastic in his first start with Clearwater. He was triple jumped from the GCL after posting pretty modest numbers after 11 games (10 starts). He, like Stewart, was let down in the finale of the doubleheader. The game was lost via reliever Colton Murray in the bottom of the 9th. Aaron Altherr with a 3 hit night (his 9th multi-hit game this month). I like Altherr a lot and hope he is protected as I'm pretty positive someone will roll the dice on him in the Rule 5. Clearwater is eliminated from playoff contention.
Hagerstown 4, Lakewood 2
Ramon Oviedo - 4 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 GB, 3 FB
Angelo Mora - 1 for 4, R
JP Crawford - 0 for 4, K
Willie Carmona - 1 for 3, HR, 2 RBI, BB
Brian Pointer - 0 for 2, BB
Larry Greene - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Carlos Tocci - 0 for 4, 2 K (outfield assist, 2nd base)
Oviedo with a decent start, but overall consistent with what he has done all season. Crawford's on base streak with Lakewood comes to an end finally (9 games). Aside from Carmona's 2 run homer, the offense put up a stinker.
Williamsport 9, State College 1
Yacksel Rios - 5 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 5 K, 2 GB, 4 FB
Justin Parr - 0 for 3, 2 R, BB, K, SB, HBP
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 5, R, RBI
Zach Green - 1 for 3, R, 2 BB, K
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 4, R, 2 RBI, BB, K, SB
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 3, R, RBI, BB
Gustavo Martinez - 2 for 5, 2B, 3 RBI, K
Sam Dove - 1 for 5, HR, 2 K
The Crosscutter offense explodes for 8 runs in the first two innings and wouldn't need much more. Rios was back on track after throwing up a combined no-hitter 2 starts ago. The offense put up 8 hits and drew 8 walks in route to a win. Cozens steals his 11th base on the season. Williamsport are not in playoff contention and were eliminated earlier.
Denton Keys - 3 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 ER, K, 6 GB, 4 FB
Venn Biter - 2 for 5, 2 R, 2B, 3B
Steve Golden - 3 for 4, R, K, CS, picked off
Robinson Torres - 2 for 4, R, 2B, 3 RBI, K, SB
Wilmer Oberto - 1 for 3, 3 RBI
Cord Sandberg - 0 for 4, K
Jan Hernandez - 1 for 4, 2 K (fielding and throwing error)
Trey Williams - 1 for 4, HR, K (pickoff error)
GCL Phils dominate in a bullpen game started by Denton Keys. Jan Hernandez with a tough day at the plate and field. He hasn't been particularly impressive this season with the GCL Phils. Venn Biter, however, has shown a lot more in half the at bats. Robinson Torres continued to add to his impressive season with another excellent game. Oberto continues to rack up RBIs. GCL Phils were eliminated from playoff contention. They have 1 game left on the season.
