For the first time since the start of the season, the Phillies will play without a single Young on the roster. Delmon is with the Rays (and will probably be called up today), and Michael Young was traded to the Dodgers just last night. Both will probably play in the postseason for different divisions -- the Dodgers have the NL West sewn up while the Rays are three and a half game ahead of the Yankees for the second Wild Card spot in the AL.
They leave behind a Young-less Phillies lineup that beat the Cubs by one run on Friday (thanks to Michael Young and his four-hit day) and lost to the Cubs by one run on Saturday (thanks in part to Michael Young's ninth error of the year and his additional non-error error). This is confusing.
Kyle Kendrick had a 4.94 ERA in August. He gave up five runs in six innings his last start, and his overall ERA went down. That says a lot about how Kyle Kendrick has pitched. (Woof.) He faces Jake Arrieta of the Cubs today, who has a similar ERA. Hopefully the Phillies' lineup won't make him look like Nolan Ryan today.
