Lehigh Valley 5, Scranton/WB 4 (August 30)
Tyler Cloyd - 6 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, 2 HR, 6 GB, 6 FB
Mauricio Robles - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, K
Cesar Hernandez - 0 for 3, BB, K (fielding error)
Freddy Galvis - 1 for 4, R, 3B, K
Steve Susdorf - 2 for 4, R, K, CS
Tyler Henson - 1 for 3, R, RBI, K
Michael Martinez - 2 for 4, 3B, 3 RBI
Lehigh wins in dramatic fashion with a walkoff win. They were down 4-0 before putting up a 3 spot in the bottom of the 7th. The IronPigs would score the 2 winnings runs courtesy of a Tyler Henson sac fly and a Martinez RBI single. Tyler Cloyd with an acceptable start and Robles wins his 2nd game with Lehigh Valley. His scoreless streak continues!
Scranton/WB 3, Lehigh Valley 2 (August 31)
Raul Valdes - 7 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 5 K, 2 HR, 7 GB, 8 FB
Joe Savery - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Luis Garcia - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Cesar Hernandez - 1 for 5, R, K
Freddy Galvis - 1 for 4, R, 2B, K
Josh Fields - 1 for 3, 2 RBI, BB
Michael Martinez - 1 for 4, 2B
Leandro Castro - 1 for 4
Valdes with a decent outing in what might be his last as a Phillie. I'd be surprised if he was brought back. His numbers between AAA and MLB are pretty ugly. The hitting lineup goes quiet in the finale of the 4 game series. They lose the series 3 out of 4, and Lehigh is eliminated from playoff contention. They end the 2013 season with a 2 game set with Pawtucket.
Pawtucket 5, Lehigh Valley 0 (September 1 - 6 innings, completed early due to rain)
David Buchanan - 5.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 6 GB, 5 FB
Derrick Mitchell - 1 for 3
Freddy Galvis - 1 for 2
Leandro Castro - 1 for 2
Buchanan was looking pretty good for Lehigh in his previous 5 starts since being promoted. This was an obvious stinker, but the offense doesn't help him in the slightest. They muster up a rousing 3 hits in the shortened game. Lehigh sits at 72-71 and have 1 game remaining on the season. Hopefully they finished above .500.
New Britain 7, Reading 3 (August 30)
Ryan Dremmin - 6 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 HR, 9 GB, 4 FB
Zach Collier - 1 for 3, R, BB, SB, HBP
Maikel Franco - 2 for 4, 2 R, 2B, RBI
Jim Murphy - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI, K
Kelly Dugan - 3 for 4, K
Anthony Hewitt - 0 for 3, RBI, BB, K
Sebastian Valle - 0 for 4, 2 K
Dremmin with an awful showing for the 2nd straight start. The offense picks up 8 hits to New Britain's 9, but still fall by 4 runs. Twins superprospect Miguel Sano with 2 HR in this game. He has very Franco-esque numbers this season (.284/.385/.619 35 HR 103 RBI, 11 SB). Twins fans are obviously excited about him and Byron Buxton. Franco with another 2 hits in this game.
Reading 5, New Britain 4 (August 31)
Bobby Bramhall - 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, HR, 7 GB, 4 FB
Austin Wright - 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, K
Maikel Franco - 0 for 4, 3 K
Jim Murphy - 0 for 4, 3 K
Kelly Dugan - 1 for 4, R, 2B, 2 K
Anthony Hewitt - 2 for 4, 2 R, 2B, SB
Sebastian Valle - 1 for 4, R, 2B, 2 K
Troy Hanzawa - 3 for 4, R, 2B, 4 RBI, SB
Reading battles back after being down 3 to 2. They score 2 in the top of the 7th via an RBI double from Troy Hanzawa. Edgar Duran would hit an RBI double for the go ahead run in the top of the 9th and eventually win the game. Bramhall with a decent start, but Austin Wright would blow the lead. Reading faced former baby ace Trevor May (who strikes out 10 in the game). Hewitt steals his 20th base on the season.
New Britain 5, Reading 4 (September 1)
Mario Hollands - 6.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 K, 7 GB, 9 FB
Albert Cartwright - 2 for 5, 2B, RBI, K
Matt Tolbert - 2 for 5, R, K, SB
Maikel Franco - 2 for 4, R, 2B, K
Kelly Dugan - 0 for 4, RBI
Anthony Hewitt - 1 for 4, R, 2B, 3 K
Hollands pitches a great game and leaves the bullpen in good hands. Juan Sosa blows the game in the bottom of the 9th by giving up 3 runs. Franco with another multi-hit game. The season finale for the Fightin's is Monday night.
Dunedin 3, Clearwater 0 (August 30)
Nic Hanson - 7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 K, 11 GB, 2 FB
Jiwan James - 0 for 4, K
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Cameron Perkins - 0 for 3
Harold Martinez - 0 for 2, BB
Bob Stumpo - 1 for 3, K
Clearwater is shut out for the 4th game in a row where they only muster 1 hit. It is really getting pathetic. Nic Hanson pitches a decent game.
Clearwater 6, Dunedin 0 (August 31)
Luis Paulino - 5 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K, 2 GB, 4 FB
Jiwan James - 2 for 4, R, K
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 4, K
Chris Serritella - 1 for 4, 2 RBI, K
Cameron Perkins - 1 for 4, R
Jonathan Roof - 1 for 4, HR, 3 RBI, K
Harold Martinez - 1 for 3
Clearwater finally snaps out of their funk behind a 3 run jack from Roof and a brilliant performance from Paulino. Paulino has looked good since becoming a starter.
Dunedin 16, Clearwater 2 (September 1)
Alejandro Arteaga - 1.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, K
Brock Stassi - 1 for 4
Jiwan James - 1 for 4, R
Cameron Perkins - 2 for 4, R, 2B, RBI
Chris Serritella - 0 for 4, K
Carlos Alonso - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI, K
Harold Martinez - 1 for 3, BB, K
Yikes...Clearwater seems to have packed it in for the remainder of the season. Ridenhour, Guth and Murray in the bullpen combine to allow the 12 other runs. This was a disappointing finish to the season for the Threshers who had been very good in the 2nd half. They finish 67-68. There should be graduates to Reading with James, Perkins and Martinez. I'm there there will be more, but that is for another article.
Lakewood 6, Greensboro 1 (August 30)
Mark Leiter - 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 8 K, 3 GB, 3 FB
Angelo Mora - 2 for 5, R, K
JP Crawford - 0 for 4, R, BB
Willie Carmona - 3 for 5, R, RBI
Art Charles - 1 for 3, R, RBI, BB, K
Brian Pointer - 1 for 4, K
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 3, R, 3 RBI, K
Mark Leiter has just been super impressive at all levels this season and it should be interesting to see where he ends next season. Crawford reaches base, but fails to get a hit.
Greensboro 2, Lakewood 0 (August 31)
Miguel Nunez - 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K, 6 GB, 7 FB
Angelo Mora - 1 for 4, BB
JP Crawford - 0 for 5. K
Willie Carmona - 1 for 3, BB
Art Charles - 2 for 3, BB
Brian Pointer - 2 for 4, 2B
Larry Greene - 0 for 3, 2 K
Carlos Tocci - 0 for 4, 2 K
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 4, K
Miguel Nunez with a spectacular start, but doesn't get any support. Lakewood leaves 11 runners on and go 1 for 7 with RISP.
Lakewood 3, Greensboro 1 (September 1)
Jeb Stefan - 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 6 K, 6 GB, 7 FB
JP Crawford - 0 for 4, 2 K
Willie Carmona - 1 for 2, R, 2 BB (fielding error)
Art Charles - 3 for 4, K
Brian Pointer - 1 for 3, R, BB
Larry Greene - 1 for 4, 2B, 2 K
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, CS
Stefan with an impressive start to end the season for Lakewood. The team was otherwise disappointing. Crawford ends the season in a 3 game hitless streak. Lots of promise and disappointments with this year's team. There should be significant graduations and decisions to make.
Williamsport 9, Batavia 3 (August 30)
Shane Martin - 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, BB, 5 K, 5 GB, 3 FB
Gustavo Martinez - 1 for 5, 2 K, CS, picked off
Justin Parr - 1 for 4, R, 3B, BB
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 5, 2 RBI, 2 K, CS, picked off
Zach Green - 1 for 3, R, HR, 2 K, SB, HBP
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 4, 2B, K (passed ball)
Logan Pierce - 1 for 3, 2 R, BB
Samuel Hiciano - 3 for 3, 3 R, 2B, BB, CS, picked off
Sam Dove - 3 for 4, R, 2B, 2 RBI
Malquin Canelo - 1 for 3, R, 2B, 3 RBI
Williamsport clobbers Batavia behind a great performance from Martin. Martin should be moving up to Lakewood next season. Green with another HR to add to his league lead.
Jamestown 8, Williamsport 6 (August 31)
Mitch Gueller - 5 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, K, 8 GB, 3 FB
Herlis Rodriguez - 1 for 4, RBI, BB, 2 SB (outfield assist, home)
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 4, R, 2B, BB, K
Zach Green - 1 for 2, R, 2 BB, K, SB
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, BB, K (passed ball)
Gueller was all sorts of disappointment this season. I'd imagine he will move to Lakewood in 2014, but that certainly isn't deserving. Rodriguez has probably turned some heads this season. Cozens and Green will definitely be making the move to Lakewood next season.
Williamsport 3, Jamestown 2 (September 1)
Drew Anderson - 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 3 K, 6 GB, 3 FB
Justin Parr - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI, K, SB
Dylan Cozens - 2 for 4, HR, CS
Zach Green - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K (throwing error)
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 3, BB, CS
Gustavo Martinez - 2 for 4 (fielding error)
Malquin Canelo - 3 for 4, 2 R, 3B, HR, K, SB
Williamsport wins it's series finale behind another outstanding Drew Anderson performance. The Crosscutters have another 3 games series against Batavia to close out the season.
