Pawtucket 4, Lehigh Valley 0
Greg Smith - 7 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB, 2 K, 9 GB, 5 FB
Phillippe Aumont - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
Freddy Galvis - 0 for 4, K
Tyler Henson - 1 for 3, 2 K, SB
Leandro Castro - 1 for 3, SB
Cameron Rupp - 0 for 2
Well, that certainly is a way to end the season. IronPigs muster up only 2 hits and 4 total baserunners. Lehigh finishes 72-72 and miss the playoffs. Lehigh had notable graduations of Ethan Martin, Cody Asche, Jonathan Pettibone and Darin Ruf during the course of the season in addition to some moving bullpen pieces. Cesar Hernandez, Freddy Galvis, Cameron Rupp, Luis Garcia, Mauricio Robles and Joe Savery were called up recently. Mike Stutes, BJ Rosenberg, Cesar Jimenez, Justin De Fratus and Jake Diekman also are seeing some time with the big club. Lehigh fumbled down the stretch and couldn't grab a playoff spot despite at times being only 1 or 2 games out.
Reading 3, New Britain 2
Severino Gonzalez - 6.2 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 6 K, 5 GB, 5 FB
Albert Cartwright - 1 for 5, R, 2B, RBI, 2 K
Matt Tolbert - 2 for 4, RBI (outfield assist, 2nd base)
Maikel Franco - 3 for 4, 2B, K
Jim Murphy - 1 for 4, 2 K
Kelly Dugan - 1 for 4, K
Anthony Hewitt - 2 for 4, R, 2 K, SB
Sebastian Valle - 1 for 4, K
Troy Hanzawa - 2 for 3, R, 2B, RBI
Reading ends their season with a win (62-80). Severino Gonzalez makes his AA debut and puts up a good line. His velocity was a bit down, but was still highly effective. It's hard not to be a little excited by the kid, who is only 20 years old. He will likely get a full season at Reading in 2014 and probably has the most attention from a pitching prospect outside of Adam Morgan and Jesse Biddle. Franco will likely top most Phillies top prospect charts at season's end and for good reason. It's really impressive what he has done since graduating midseason from Clearwater. Kelly Dugan is the other notable graduate from Clearwater and his production at the higher level has been encouraging. Hewitt is a player that put together a good season, though it is pretty much in line with his past 2 seasons. I don't know if he will ever be a player at the MLB level.
Batavia 6, Williamsport 2
Yacksel Rios - 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 0 ER, BB, 9 GB, 2 FB
Gustavo Martinez - 0 for 4, 2 K, CS
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 4, 2 R, HR
Zach Green - 0 for 3, BB, K
Andrew Knapp - 0 for 4 (passed ball)
Logan Pierce - 0 for 3 (fielding error)
Malquin Canelo - 1 for 3 (throwing error)
Dylan Cozens remains hot with his 2nd homer (9th overall) in as many days. I'm high on Cozens and will be excited to see what he can do in full-season Lakewood next season. Rios with a good start, but errors undid his work. The Canelo error and Knapp passed ball were keys to the loss. The other key was obviously the Crosscutters only collecting 2 hits the entire game. Crosscutters finish the season with 2 more games against Batavia.
Lakewood, Greensboro (cancelled due to rain)
The Blueclaw season finale ends on a soggy note. The game will not be made up as both teams are not in playoff contention. It was certainly a disappointing season for Lakewood as they didn't finish even close to contending. They saw productive seasons from DH/1B Willie Carmona, SP Jeb Stefan, SP Nic Hanson and an excellent debut from SP Mark Leiter Jr. to cap the season. Roman Quinn with a season ending injury put a damper on a lot of prospect enthusiasts expectations. Mitch Walding had many difficulties in the field/plate and Larry Greene was an absolute mess. Carlos Tocci's season was encouraging for a 17/18 year old, but obviously needs more work and is likely to stay with the Blueclaws another season. Brian Pointer showed flashes of being a prospect exhibiting good defense and even speed on the base-paths.
