There are a few Phillies topics that I never get tired of talking about. The unending awesomeness of Roy Halladay. The Phillies' straight-up dominance in the 2011 regular season. And of course, the 2008 World Series.
Six years ago tonight, the Phillies won Game 5 of the 2008 World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays. After the game was suspended on October 27 due to inclement weather (AKA freezing temperatures and a deluge of water falling out of the sky), Philadelphia had to wait two days to watch the thrilling conclusion. Compared to the years of waiting that had come before, two days was nothing.
Six years isn't a big, important anniversary. There's nothing special about it. But while the team is experiencing a period of putridity, I like to remember the good times. Watching the clip below doesn't make me sad -- I don't think about the years of futility that came before it, or the struggles that would follow. It's a moment of pure, perfect, unadulterated joy, and that's all I experience when I watch it.
So watch the clip above and (re)experience your own moment of joy. And please share your favorite 2008 Game 5 memories with us in the comments.
