Lehigh Valley 4, Syracuse 0 (Game 1 of doubleheader)
Greg Smith - 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R. 6 K, 8 GB, 5 FB
Tyson Gillies - 0 for 3, K
Maikel Franco - 0 for 3, K, HBP
Jim Murphy - 1 for 3, R
Reid Brignac - 2 for 3, 2 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI
Koyie Hill - 2 for 3, R, 2B
Steve Susdorf - 1 for 2, RBI
Greg Smith with an impressive start in a shortened game (due to the doubleheader) as he gets the complete game shutout. Once again, the production comes out of the org-filler portion of the lineup. Franco remains ice, ice cold. He is certainly having some adjustment issues. No panic button yet people, I SAID DON'T PANIC YET. Let's wait until July.
Syracuse 3, Lehigh Valley 0 (Game 2 of doubleheader, makeup of 4/15)
Brad Lincoln - 4 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 5 GB, 3 FB
Justin De Fratus - 1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER
Clete Thomas - 1 for 3, K
Tyler Henson - 1 for 2, K
Maikel Franco - 0 for 3, 2 K
Leandro Castro - 0 for 2, BB, K (outfield assist, 2B)
Sebastian Valle - 0 for 2, K
Only three baserunners all game? Yeah you just aren't going to win that way. Franco continues to devolve. Brad Lincoln with his 2nd turn as a starter. He was obtained from Toronto as a reliever and was then sent down to Lehigh and converted to a starter after a couple weeks into the Phillies season. The conversion seems to be going well so far. De Fratus just seems like a mess. He was one bullpen piece a couple years ago that I was sure was going to succeed at the major league level.
Lakeland 2, Clearwater 1
Cole Hamels - 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 2 K, HR, 13 GB, 3 FB
Brian Pointer - 0 for 4, K
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 4 (outfield assist, home)
Harold Martinez - 0 for 4, K
KC Serna - 1 for 4, R
Art Charles - 1 for 3, 2B, K
Willie Carmona - 1 for 3 (2 fielding errors)
Angelo Mora - 2 for 3, K
Cole Hamels in what we all hope to be his final rehab start. Brian Pointer returns to the outfield, so he appears to be fine. Carmona gets a rare start at 3B....and doesn't look particularly good. Altherr showing off his arm once again. Angelo Mora keeps hitting really well and has now hit safely in his last 7 games (3 multi-hit games). Not sure if its sustainable, but its a positive sign from the 21 year old second baseman. Clearwater loses this one as Lino Martinez would walk the first two batters in the top of the 9th before being replaced by Chris Burgess. Burgess would would get a forceout before walking the next batter and then throwing a wild pitch allowing the runner from 3rd to score. This would of course be the winning run as Clearwater failed to rally in the bottom of the inning.
Hagerstown 13, Lakewood 3
Alejandro Arteaga - 2 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 3 ER, BB, 4 GB, 3 FB (throwing error)
JP Crawford - 1 for 5, K
Carlos Tocci - 3 for 5, 2 R
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 5, 3 K (2 fielding errors)
Zach Green - 1 for 4, R, RBI, BB, K (fielding error)
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 3
Samuel Hiciano - 1 for 2, 2 BB, K (throwing error)
Larry Greene - 0 for 4
Gabriel Lino - 0 for 2, RBI, K
Willians Astudillo - 2 for 4 (missed catch error)
Oh good lord this was an ugly game. 6 errors overall were committed, including #6 on the season for Green. I picture this game in my head like a Benny Hill skit. Gabriel Lino left the game in the 6th, though I'm not sure why. Astudillo would move from 1B to catcher and Wilmer Oberto would play first. Astudillo continues to rake in the 9-hole. I'd maybe consider moving him up in the lineup, but that is just me. I know you'd rather fill those spots with premium prospects like Cozens and Green, but maybe those guys just aren't cutting there at the time being. Arteaga and the bullpen (Jesen Therrien, Keivi Rojas, Yacksel Rios) would combine for 13 runs (7 earned), walking 5 and only striking out 2. Positives from the game? Another multi-hit game for Mr. Tocci. He's collected 8 hits in his last 3 games. This is fantastic to see. I could have sworn I saw Nationals prospect Lucas Giolito was supposed to start this game. Curious as to whether he was scratched or not.
