Norfolk 9, Lehigh Valley 5
Sean O'Sullivan - 7 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 5 GB, 7 FB
Seth Rosin - 0.1 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB
Justin De Fratus - 0.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB
Tyson GIllies - 0 for 5, 4 K
Clete Thomas - 1 for 4, 2B, K (fielding error) (outfield assist, home)
Maikel Franco - 3 for 4, 2 R, 2B, HR
Reid Brignac - 1 for 4, SB
Leandro Castro - 2 for 3, R, 3B, BB (fielding error)
A lot happened this game, of course not all good. Sean O'Sullivan did his job and had the lead when exiting. Seth Rosin was absolutely destroyed, despite my recent praise. De Fratus was unfortunately no better. Who poisoned the Phillies reliever water well? Maikel Franco breaks out in this game. Had the pleasure of watching Franco's double, which was more of a single that Franco was able to stretch into a double thanks to Norfolk cutting off the ball instead of letting it go to second. I missed Franco's home run (damn you playoff hockey), but apparently it was a bomb to center. He has been playing a bit better, but just watching his one at bat, his swing still has a lot of work if it is going to succeed at the major league level. But I'll tell you what, the kid has phenomenal power as he smoked that "double" with barely any effort. Iron Pigs lose this in the top of the 9th when Norfolk plated 6 runs. Jonathan Pettibone squares off against top Orioles prospect Kevin Gausman. That will be one to watch.
Clearwater 7, Dunedin 5
Ethan Stewart - 7 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HR, 7 GB, 7 FB
Brian Pointer - 0 for 3, R, BB, K, HBP
KC Serna - 2 for 5, R (fielding error)
Peter Lavin - 1 for 5, R (outfield assist, 2B)
Harold Martinez - 1 for 5, RBI, K, SB
Willie Carmona - 1 for 4, 2 R, 3B, BB, K (throwing error)
Logan Moore - 3 for 5, R, 3 RBI, 2 K
Malquin Canelo - 2 for 5, 2 2B
Ethan Stewart with another solid start. In 3 of his 5 starts this season he has given up 2 ER or less. He still has an bad 15:14 K/BB ratio though. Dunedin commits 6 errors in this one, but somehow doesn't really factor into the score. Clearwater with a nice little 2 game winning streak now. No starter has been announced yet for the game today.
Savannah 10, Lakewood 3
Drew Anderson - 5 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB, 6 K, 3 GB, 3 FB, 2 WP
Shane Martin - 1.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, K, HR
JP Crawford - 1 for 4, 2B, K
Carlos Tocci - 0 for 4, 3 K
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 2, 2 BB, K, SB
Willians Astudillo - 1 for 4, K
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 3, R, BB, SB
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 4, RBI, 2 K
Wilmer Oberto - 2 for 4, HR, 2 RBI, K
Gabriel Lino - 0 for 4, 2 K
Samuel Hiciano - 0 for 3, K
Drew Anderson gets his first full season start and has mixed results. The strikeouts were nice, but hitters hit him pretty well all night. Shane Martin either being demoted to the bullpen or helping a taxed bullpen came on in relief and was shelled. Crawford picks up a double and poor Tocci gets the hat trick. Tocci had been on fire before this game, but obviously had some trouble at the plate last night. Astudillo has an 11 game hitting streak now, while Oberto belts his 2nd homer of the season (2nd homer in last 3 games). I didn't expect this team to struggle the way it has early on this season. Lakewood has a doubleheader today (makeup of 4/6 game) with Ranfi Casimiro and Julio Reyes getting the starts.
