Before we begin, as always if I'm not featuring a player in these round-ups going forward, please let me know and I will make sure to include them.
Lehigh Valley 4, Pawtucket 0
David Buchanan - 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K, 6 GB, 3 FB, WP
Clete Thomas - 2 for 5, R, 2 2B, 2 K
Maikel Franco - 1 for 4, R, RBI, BB
Jim Murphy - 3 for 5, R, 2B, 3B, RBI, K
Cameron Rupp - 1 for 2, HR, 2 BB, K
Despite leaving a ton of guys on base and failing to execute with RISP, the Iron Pigs pulled off a boxscore gem. Buchanan, following an excellent spring training, stifled the Sox and the bullpen (Mike Nesseth, Jeremy Horst, Luis Garcia) combined for 3 innings, no hits and 5 strikeouts. Franco's RBI single in the first inning was all the team really needed. Rupp continuing where he left off last year in AAA with his first HR on the season. He has done just about all he can do in the minors at this point. He would make a fine backup to Ruiz this season. Some guy named Barry Enright is starting for Lehigh Valley tomorrow. All I know is he is 28 years old and has bounced around for the majors/minors since 2010. Should be a fun game...
Portland 5, Reading 0
Jesse Biddle - 3.1 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, HR, 2 GB, 2 FB
Zach Collier - 0 for 2, BB, K
Cam Perkins - 0 for 2, 2 K
Kelly Dugan - 0 for 1, BB
Tommy Joseph - 0 for 2, 2 K
Anthony Hewitt - 0 for 2, K
Avert your eyes children, nothing to see here. Biddle picking right up where he left off last season. Not exactly what you want to see from your prize pitching prospect. Whooping cough goes away at some point right? It was a rain shortened game if you couldn't tell, that resulted in Portland pitcher Henry Owens getting a no-hitter through 6 innings. Hey look Kelly Dugan had a walk! What I learned from this game? MILB now listed Cameron Perkins as "Cam Perkins". I like Perkins and think we need a good nickname. Severino Gonzalez gets the ball tomorrow. Does he build off an impressive 2013? Or regress? Lets all hope for the former. Positivity guys! It works I promise.
Dunedin 7, Clearwater 0
Colin Kleven - 4 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 7 GB, 2 FB
Mike (The Savior) Adams - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Justin Parr - 0 for 4, K
Peter Lavin - 2 for 4, K
Harold Martinez - 1 for 4 (fielding error)
Art Charles - 0 for 4, K
Willie Carmona - 0 for 3
I'm just going to tell you folks, this isn't going to be a pretty year for this team. As my colleague Cormican pointed out yesterday. This roster is...just really bad. These boxscores and results are just going to happen...a lot. We are going to have to wait for some injured guys to get back and Lakewood guys to be promoted. Only thing to note about this game is that Mike Adams is rehabbing and getting closer to joining the Phillies. Additional over/under for the season, who wins more games Clearwater or your Philadelphia Phillies?
Lakewood 6, Savannah 3
Mark Leiter - 5 IP, 5 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K, 8 GB, 1 FB
Ulises Joaquin - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 K, 2 GB, 1 FB
JP Crawford - 1 for 4, BB, K, SB (fielding error)
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 5, K, CS
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 5, R, 3 K, SB
Zach Green - 1 for 5, R, K
Andrew Pullin - 3 for 4, 2 R, 2B, BB
Samuel Hiciano - 2 for 4, R, RBI, CS
Larry Greene - 3 for 4, R, 3B, 4 RBI, K
Gabriel Lino - 0 for 4, 2 K
Wilmer Oberto - 2 for 4, RBI, 2 K
This is the most exciting lineup for the upcoming Phillies minor league affiliate season. This lineup is LOADED. They also had an impressive first day to boot. Leiter, a guy no one can really get a handle on, had a great first outing. Kept the ball on the ground, but didn't exactly miss bats. Everyone but Gabriel Lino had a hit yesterday. Larry Greene seemingly risen from the proverbial developmental grave lit up the scoreboard. 20 year old JP Crawford with a fine first day aside from a fielding error in the 3rd, but wound up making up for it by throwing a man out at home in the play. Tyler Viza tomorrow folks!
