Lehigh Valley 4, Gwinnett 2
Jonathan Pettibone - 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, K, 7 GB, 4 FB
Ethan Martin - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Phillippe Aumont - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB
Ken Giles - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Justin De Fratus - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Tyson Gillies - 0 for 4, K
Tyler Henson - 1 for 3, 2 R, BB, K, SB
Maikel Franco - 1 for 2, R, 2 BB, K
Darin Ruf - 1 for 2, R, RBI, BB
After a rough first inning, Pettibone settled in nicely. He gave up 3 of his 5 hits in the first inning, which accounted for both of his runs scoring. The bullpen was very, very good. 4 innings of 1 hit, 1 walk and 4 strikeout baseball. Ethan Martin after struggling in Clearwater, showed no signs of rust. Ken Giles earns his first win. Phillippe Aumont of course walked a batter in his inning, but at least he was able to pick him off! Maikel Franco has now accumulated 7 of his 13 walks in his last 10 games. His OBP in those games is .426. I fully expect Franco to begin mashing the ball again. Could Tyler Henson be the one the Phillies call up with the Nix demotion? Henson is batting .296/.353/.491 with 3 home runs, 10 doubles and 9 stolen bases. I have my bets on Cesar Hernandez, but it wouldn't surprise me if Henson gets it.
Reading 3, New Hampshire 2
Hoby Milner - 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, HR, 3 GB, 7 FB
Carlos Alonso - 1 for 4, 2 K
Cesar Hernandez - 0 for 5, K
Cam Perkins - 1 for 2, R, 2 BB
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 3
Brock Stassi - 2 for 4, HR, 2 RBI
Zach Collier - 1 for 4, R, K
Albert Cartwright - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI
Brock Stassi hits his 2nd homer run on the season (2-run homer in the 3rd) and Cartwright delivers the eventual game winning RBI double in the 6th. Hoby Milner pitches pretty darn well. He did give up a 2 run homer in the 2nd, but solid the rest of the way. Milner is never going to strike a ton of guys out, but he will need to cut down the walks (14 walks in 33 innings). He is also on pace to give up a ton more homers than last season. He gave up 11 homers in 143.1 IP in 2013 and already has 8 homers in 33 IP.
Jupiter 3, Clearwater 1
Colin Kleven - 7 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, K, 12 GB, 3 FB
Angelo Mora - 2 for 4
KC Serna - 1 for 4, K (fielding error)
Peter Lavin - 0 for 4 (outfield assist, 3B)
Harold Martinez - 0 for 4, 2 K
Andrew Knapp - 2 for 4, R, 2 K
Brian Pointer - 1 for 3, K
Colin Kleven was a ground ball machine and limited damage from all the hits he gave up, but ultimately took the defeat. He gave up all 3 runs in the first inning. Threshers were 1 for 7 with RISP and only had 1 extra base hit. Andrew Knapp with two hits! But he also struck out twice (5 K in 18 AB).
Delmarva 3, Lakewood 0
Drew Anderson - 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 8 GB, 3 FB
JP Crawford - 1 for 3, 2B, BB, 2 K
Carlos Tocci - 0 for 4, K
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 4, 2 K
Willians Astudillo - 0 for 3, K
Mitch Walding - 0 for 3, K
Andrew Pullin - 0 for 3
Samuel Hiciano - 1 for 3, 2B
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 3, K
The Blue Claws had the unfortunate timing of having to face Orioles pitching prospect stud, Hunter Harvey. Harvey would go 7 innings and only give up a walk, a hit and strike out 10. This was actually his best start of the season. JP Crawford did manage a lead off walk to start the game, but that was about it. Crawford collected a double in the 9th. Drew Anderson tried to match Harvey, but unfortunately gave up a run...and that's all it took to get the loss. An overall poor offensive showing against a tough opponent.
