Lehigh Valley 3, Scranton/WB 2
Greg Smith - 6.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 4 GB, 8 FB
Jeremy Horst - 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB
Justin De Fratus - 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R. K
Tyson Gillies - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI (outfield assist, 2B)
Tyler Henson - 0 for 3, K
Maikel Franco - 0 for 4, K
Darin Ruf - 0 for 4
Leandro Castro - 1 for 3, R, K, SB
After a couple of rough starts, Greg Smith seems to be back on track...sort of. Horst and De Fratus pitch scoreless, but not clean innings to hold on to the victory. The big bats in the lineups are silenced. Gillies is showing signs of life. He is slashing .313/.405/.406 in his last 10 with 3 doubles, two walks and a stolen base. The winning run in this one came off a sacrifice fly from Steve Susdorf that would score Koyie Hill. Lehigh Valley is now 21-18 and 1.5 games back in the North Division.
Reading 5, New Hampshire 4 (10 innings)
Jesse Biddle - 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 7 K, 3 GB, 5 FB
Tyler Knigge - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Carlos Alonso - 1 for 5, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, 2 K
Albert Cartwright - 2 for 5, SB
Brock Stassi - 1 for 4, BB
Cam Perkins - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI, BB, CS
Chris Serritella - 0 for 5, 5 K
Zach Collier - 0 for 4, K
Anthony Hewitt - 1 for 3, 2 R, HR, BB, 2 K
Lars Davis - 1 for 4, R, K (two throwing errors)
Look Jesse Biddle pitched 2 hit, no earned run ball over 6 innings and struck out 7! Yeah I know he walked 4 guys and only threw 42 of his 81 pitches for strikes. Whatever man...LET ME HAVE THIS. The Fightin's trailed this one 2-0 going into the top of the 8th, but would score 3 runs courtesy of a wild pitch and a 2 run homer from Alonso. The following top of the 9th they would add another run via an inside the park HR from Hewitt. A 4-2 lead is usually safe right? Hector Neris gives up two solo home runs to tie the game. Thankfully, in the top of the 10th, Cam Perkins would hit an RBI double to score Alonso for the eventual winning run. Chris Serritella with the infamous Platinum Sombero. Reading is 19-17!
Jupiter 5, Clearwater 1
Jon Prosinski - 7.1 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 K, HR, 11 GB, 3 FB, 2 WP
Daniel Child - 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB
Nick Ferdinand - 3 for 3, HR
KC Serna - 1 for 4
Peter Lavin - 0 for 4, K
Andrew Knapp - 0 for 3, K
Harold Martinez - 1 for 3
Gabriel Lino - 0 for 3, K
Brian Pointer - 0 for 3, K
I'm not sure Prosinski's pitch count, but I'm not sure I allow a guy that who has struggled most of the year to go out there in the 8th. Up until that point he had held Jupiter to 1 run over 7 innings before giving up a leadoff homer in the 8th and allowing a single before being relieved by Child, who fared no better allowing an inherited batter to score in addition to two others. That inning would doom the Threshers. Angelo Mora leaves the game in the 2nd inning (I'll suspect an injury?). Nick Ferdinand homers in the game (9th inning), his 2nd on the season. Clearwater falls to 8-28. They are really bad and pretty much the island of misfit toys of the organization.
Hagerstown 4, Lakewood 2
Tyler Viza - 7 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, BB, 3 K, 11 GB, 5 FB (pickoff error)
Carlos Tocci - 0 for 4, 2 K
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 4
Dylan Cozens - 2 for 4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI
Willians Astudillo - 0 for 4 (throwing error)
Mitch Walding - 0 for 3, BB, K
Wilmer Oberto - 1 for 2, 2 BB
Viza struggles in the 2nd and 3rd inning, giving up all 4 runs and 5 of his 8 hits allowed. Its been a big up and down season for Viza so far. Someone might want to check Tocci's pulse because he is ice cold (.135/.179/.162 in his last 10 games). Cozens had a huge day with his 10th double and 4th homer of the season. If he could just somehow get a little more patient at the plate, we might have something there. JP Crawford gets the night off, but his replacement Jan Hernandez doesn't do much. Astudillo behind the plate again and accounts for Viza's unearned run. Hagerstown is good, but Lakewood isn't this bad. They fall to 13-24.
