Game 44 Open Thread: Phillies @ Marlins

Hey! We have a Ben Revere sighting!

He's back!
He's back!
Mitchell Leff

Licking their wounds from a 14-5 thrashing at the hands of the Marlins, the Phillies will try to start another winning streak this afternoon in the final game of their three-game series with the Fish down in Miami.

Making his grand re-appearance, as noted by Justin Klugh today, is center fielder Ben Revere, who gets the start despite Tony Gwynn Jr.'s .203/.320/.234 slash line. Did I say despite? I probably meant to say "because of." Revere's isn't a whole lot better though, at .262/.282/.295. With Jimmy Rollins doing damage in the lead-off spot, Revere has been scuttled to the 8-hole. Wil Nieves gets the start at catcher, batting in the #2 spot. The rest of the lineup is as it normally would be.

Fresh off his 100th career victory, Cole Hamels will start for the Phillies. He beat the Cincinnati Reds his last time out 12-1 and now has a 4.40 ERA on the season. Lifetime against Miami he's done well, posting a 3.16 ERA. He'll be opposed by right-hander Henderson Alvarez, who is 2-3 on the year with a 3.62 ERA. He's pitched against the Phils twice before, getting a no-decision earlier this year in Philadelphia in which he allowed three runs, 12 hits and three walks over six innings in the Phils' 4-3 win on April 13.

Last night's loss was the Phils' first against the Marlins this year in five games, and Philadelphia has won 12 of its last 16 games against Miami.
