Reading 7, New Hampshire 6
Mike Nesseth - 5 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, HR, 6 GB, 1 FB
Austin Wright - 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, K
Colton Murray - 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Tyler Knigge - 2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R
Albert Cartwright - 2 for 2, 3 R, 3 BB, 2 SB
Carlos Alonso - 1 for 2, R, BB
Brock Stassi - 0 for 5, RBI, K
Cam Perkins - 0 for 4, 3 RBI, BB, K
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 K (outfield assist, 2B)
Even when Perkins doesn't get a hit, he somehow produces. Cam gets 3 groundout RBI's, with his final one being the eventual game winner. Aaron Altherr hits his 3rd homer for Reading, a two-run shot in the 5th inning. Mike Nesseth has been a disaster in the rotation. Austin Wright bidding to become more erratic than Phillippe Aumont, has 4 walks in relief and needs Murray to bail him out. Knigge gets the save, his 3rd. Cartwright continues to ride his hot streak. He is a little old for the league anyway. Reading has owned New Hampshire all season. They swept a 3 game series last week against them and have already taken the first 4 games of the 5 game series this week. The finale is tonight with Severino Gonzalez taking the mound. I like their odds for a sweep.
St. Lucie 5, Clearwater 2
Ethan Stewart - 4 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 7 BB, 2 K, 2 GB, 2 FB, WP
Brian Pointer - 0 for 4, K
KC Serna - 0 for 4, 2 K
Peter Lavin - 2 for 4, R, 2B
Art Charles - 2 for 3, RBI, BB
Andrew Knapp - 0 for 2, R, 2 BB, picked off
Gabriel Lino - 0 for 3, BB
Just who is Ethan Stewart? This season it has been one step forward, two steps back. He likes to make it a challenge for himself to see if he can get out of an inning while loading the bases with runners. I don't approve of the strategy and it obviously didn't work for him this time out. Kidding aside, the kid is holding opponents to a .268 average. The bad part? He has given up 37 walks in 53 innings and only has struck out 24. He is a big lefty and only 23, so he might take a little bit more time to get it all together. The offense doesn't help his cause either way. Peter Lavin DOESN'T have an outfield assist, but does collect two hits. Knapp doesn't strike out for the first time in 9 games. Clearwater is now 9-34 and have lost 10 of their last 11.
