Today's Probables: LHV: TBD, TBD (doubleheader), REA: Severino Gonzalez, CLR: TBD, LWD: Mark Leiter

Lehigh Valley 5, Norfolk 4

Barry Enright - 7.1 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, K, 2 HR, 9 GB, 7 FB
Ken Giles - 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Tyson Gillies - 0 for 4, K
Tyler Henson - 2 for 4, HR, 2 RBI, CS, picked off
Maikel Franco - 0 for 3, BB
Cameron Rupp - 0 for 4, 2 K
Ronny Cedeno - 1 for 3, HR, 3 RBI, 2 K

Barry Enright pitches well enough, with the only real mistakes coming off solo home runs from former MLB stars Jemile Weeks and Brett Wallace. Ken Giles closes out the game for his 3rd save. He hasn't had the same strikeout numbers since joining the Iron Pigs, but Giles hasn't given up a run in his last 8.2 innings since giving up 1 run in his debut. If it's worth anything, he is holding runners to a lower average at the higher level this season. Franco has cooled off some since his "re-awakening" that took place late-April to mid-May. The encouraging thing about his "cool off" is he is still taking a ton of walks and not striking out. Tyler Henson has his 4th HR of the season and has raised his average back up to .280. Why is that significant? Because aside from Steve Susdorf, no one is batting above .255.

Akron 9, Reading 0

Mike Nesseth - 1.2 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 GB, 2 FB
Kyle Simon - 2.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 GB, 3 FB
Ryan O'Sullivan - 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K, 4 GB, 4 FB
Brock Stassi - 0 for 3
Cam Perkins - 1 for 2, 2B
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 3, K
Sebastian Valle - 1 for 3, K

The usual Mike Nesseth game took place on a beautiful Memorial Day. The only thing missing was probably actual fireworks. He has somehow given up 28 earned runs in 26.1 IP, including 46 hits. Kyle Simon has fared no better and was demoted back to Reading after a disaster at Lehigh. The offense only musters up 3 hits in this demoralizing loss to an actually quite good Akron team. Perkins was relieved for a pinch hitter in the 7th. I'm not sure why this happened. Any insight from the readers would be helpful!

Greensboro 4, Lakewood 0

Tyler Viza - 6 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 K, HR, 12 GB, 1 FB
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 4, K, CS
Andrew Pullin - 0 for 4, K (fielding error)
JP Crawford - 1 for 4, 2B, K
Willians Astudillo - 1 for 4
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 4, K
Mitch Walding - 1 for 4, K
Samuel Hiciano - 2 for 3
Wilmer Oberto - 1 for 3
Jiandido Tromp - 1 for 3, K

Tyler Viza gets the hard luck loss after tossing a quality game. That is 4 quality starts in his last 7 games. Andrew Pullin commits his 11th error of the season and Crawford has himself another double (his 14th). The offense wasn't able to do much and was 1 for 7 with RISP. Samuel Hiciano has 5 multi-hit games in his last 10 games and sports a .291/.339/.494 line with 20 extra base hits. Nearly half of his base hits are for more than a single.
