That's right, kiddos. It's just the fourth game of a five-game series. Teams don't usually play 5-game series unless there's a trip to the next round of the postseason attached to it.
Alas, these two teams, the 24-29 Phillies and the 26-29 Mets, are playing the 'ol "Let's Keep Out Of The Cellar Series," and it's been a truly riveting one for the fans of both teams.
The two teams have played consecutive 14-inning affairs, one more sloppy than the next. The Phils have lost two out of the first three games of the series, but will send their de facto "ace" to the mound today, Cole Hamels, to pitch against his arch-nemisis.
In his career against the Mets, Hamels is 7-14 with a 4.51 ERA. He'll be opposed by Jonathan Niese, who is 7-6 with a 3.08 ERA in his career against the Phillies.
And one quick note about the lineup, Chase Utley gets the day off, Cesar Hernandez starts in his place.
Oh dear heavens above, please let this game go the regular nine. I don't think anyone can stand any more bonus baseball between these two.
