Rochester 4, Lehigh Valley 0
Sean O'Sullivan - 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 4 GB, 7 FB
Phillippe Aumont - 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 K, WP
Tyler Knigge - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Cam Perkins - 1 for 4, 3 K
Cameron Rupp - 0 for 3, BB, 3 K
Maikel Franco - 1 for 4
Tyler Henson - 0 for 4, 3 K (throwing error)
Tyson Gillies - 0 for 3
Sean O'Sullivan pitches a quality game, but the offense only collects 3 hits. Math. Phillippe Aumont with the odd line, allowing a run on only 1 hit and no walks. He actually records 4 outs in the inning. He allowed a leadoff runner via throwing a wild pitch on a strikeout. That runner would then steal second and score on a RBI single. After a rough first two outings, Knigge now has a 3 inning scoreless streak in which he has given up no hits or walks. Poor production out of your 3/4 hitters isn't going to win you ball games. A very rare 3 strikeout night for Cam Perkins. Franco has a two game hitting streak! He raises his average to .213.
Reading, New Britain (postponed due to rain)
Clearwater 8, Tampa 5 (Game 1 of doubleheader, 7 innings)
Colin Kleven - 6.2 IP, 12 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, HR, 7 GB, 8 FB
Roman Quinn - 1 for 3, 2 R, 3B, BB, K
Brian Pointer - 1 for 2, R, 2 RBI, BB, K, HBP
KC Serna - 1 for 4, HR, 4 RBI
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI
Not exactly sure how you give up 14 baserunners and only come out with giving up 5 runs, but we'll take it? Kleven hasn't been particularly sharp in his last 5 starts (30.1 IP, 41 H, 25 ER). Roman Quinn is still at SS in this game and gets himself his first triple of the season. Brian Pointer's "hot streak" continues! KC Serna breaks the game wide open in the 3rd with his 3rd homer, a grandslam.
Clearwater 3, Tampa 0 (Game 2 of doubleheader, 7 innings)
Ethan Stewart - 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 5 BB, 4 K, 4 GB, 5 FB
Lino Martinez - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, 4 K
Brian Pointer - 0 for 3, K (outfield assist, 3B)
KC Serna - 0 for 3, 2 K
Brandon Short - 2 for 3, 2 R, 2B, 3B
Chris Serritella - 1 for 3, 2 RBI
What voodoo magic have you acquired Ethan Stewart? He now sports a 41:47 K/BB ratio, given up 78 hits in 74.1 IP and has surrendered only 36 ER. Impressive to say the least. Not much excitement or prospects to discuss in the nightcap. The Threshers collect runs in the 2nd, 5th and 6th to go on to win.
Lakewood 3, Hickory 1
Jon Prosinski - 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 8 GB, 4 FB
JP Crawford - 1 for 4, SB
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 3, R
Andrew Pullin - 2 for 3, 2 R, BB, SB
Willians Astudillo - 2 for 3, 2B, 2 RBI, BB
Zach Green - 1 for 4, RBI, SB
Mitch Walding - 0 for 4, K
Samuel Hiciano - 2 for 4, SB
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 2, BB, K
Despite going 1 for 12 with RISP, Lakewood holds on to win. Jon Prosinski pitches well enough for a 23 year old college pitcher playing amongst 20-21 year olds. JP Crawford steals his 11th base. In fact, it seems like everyone was stealing bases off starter Kevin Pucetas and catcher Kellin Deglan. Andrew Knapp gets behind the plate for the first time since last season, prior to his Tommy John surgery. He did get relieved in the 6th inning by Jose Mayorga. Haven't been able to see if that was injury related or strictly defensive. You can't help but feel bad for Mitch Walding, as he seems to be the only guy not hitting these days.
