Do the Phillies dare disrupt the phenom Reid Brignac and call up Asche?
Do the Phillies dare disrupt the phenom Reid Brignac and call up Asche?
Mitchell Leff

Lehigh Valley 5, Charlotte 4

Sean O'Sullivan - 6 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 K, 5 GB, 4 FB
Cesar Jimenez - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
BJ Rosenberg - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB
Luis Garcia - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB
Leandro Castro - 1 for 4, HR, K (outfield assist, 3B)
Cody Asche - 3 for 3, R, 2B, 2 RBI, HBP
Maikel Franco - 0 for 4, K
Cam Perkins - 0 for 3, BB
Tyson Gillies - 1 for 2, R

Who is this Cody Asche guy? The Phillies should call him up and give him a shot. Sean O'Sullivan pitches in and out of trouble, but left the game with a no decision. Luis Garcia earns his 10th save and has not given up an earned run 19.2 innings in AAA, holding batters to a .193 average. In 4 IP with the Phillies, he has given up 7 ER and has walked 5 batters while giving up 7 hits. Franco's two game hitting streak comes to an end. Castro's 4th HR in the 7th would tie the game and Koyie Hill's sac-bunt RBI in the 8th would eventually be the game winner.

Akron 15, Reading 10

Adam Loewen - 4.2 IP, 5 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, HR, 5 GB, 4 FB
Kyle Simon - 2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, K, WP
Nefi Ogando - 1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB
Peter Lavin - 3 for 5, 2 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, picked off
Kelly Dugan - 1 for 4, 2 R, 2 K, HBP (fielding error)
Jake Fox - 3 for 4, 2 HR, 4 RBI
Brock Stassi - 1 for 4, R, BB, K
Zach Collier - 2 for 4, 2 RBI
Logan Moore - 2 for 4, HR 2 RBI

This game welcomed back both Kelly Dugan and Zach Collier from the DL. I had no idea either were ready to come back. Both had good games. Jake Fox blasts two more home runs, giving him 3 in 4 games played with Reading. Logan Moore since being promoted to Reading has been great and hit his first HR of the season last night. He is batting .295/.312/.353 in 48 AB. This game was a slugfest, with no pitchers really leaving unscathed. Both teams combined for 30 hits, 8 walks and 3 errors.

Clearwater 3, Lakeland 0

Jeb Stefan - 6 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K, 4 GB, 4 FB
Lino Martinez - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K
Lee Ridenhour - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Roman Quinn - 1 for 4, R, K
Brian Pointer - 1 for 4, 2 K
KC Serna - 1 for 4, 2 RBI
Harold Martinez - 0 for 3, 2 K
Art Charles - 2 for 3, R, 2 3B, K
Gabriel Lino - 0 for 3, K
Angelo Mora - 2 for 3, R, RBI, SB

Two really good starts from Stefan in a row? Say it ain't so? 12 IP, 10 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 10 K. Keep it up Jeb. Ridenhour picks up his 4th save and has 4 straight outings without allowing a run. The Threshers got out hit 8-7 and still went on to win. Art Charles with the rare two-triple night. I'd very much like to see the big guy flying around the bases. Who would have thought a groundout RBI from Serna in the 1st inning would hold up to win.

Williamsport 12, Jamestown 5

Mitch Gueller - 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 K, 7 GB, 1 FB
Cord Sandberg - 2 for 5, 2 R, 3B, HR, 5 RBI
Jiandido Tromp - 3 for 4, 2B, 2 HR, 3 RBI, BB
Drew Stankiewicz - 0 for 5, R
Rhys Hoskins - 2 for 4, R, 2 2B, RBI, K (two fielding errors)
Derek Campbell - 1 for 3, R, 2B, HBP
Herlis Rodriguez - 0 for 3, 2 R, BB, K
Deivi Grullon - 2 for 2, R, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 BB

Mitch Gueller makes his 2014 debut after a very, very disappointing 2013 campaign in which he struggled really bad. He had some success last night, but threw only 35 of his 69 pitches for strikes. Mitch Rupert reported that his stuff looked good though, so there is that. Onto the offense, which has been pretty good thus far, being led by Cord Sandberg. He blasts his 1st home run of the year, a 3-run shot in the 2nd inning. Tromp homers twice in this game, his 2nd and 3rd of the season, but first 2 with the Crosscutters. Hoskins bat seems to be heating up after a rough couple first games, though two fielding errors at first nearly negate that.  Very good games from Grullon (who picked off a runner) and Derek Campbell. This is going to be a fun team to follow.
