Lehigh Valley 4, Charlotte 3
Chris Bootcheck - 7 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, HR, 8 GB, 2 FB
B.J. Rosenberg - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Tyler Henson - 1 for 3, BB
Maikel Franco - 1 for 5, RBI
Cam Perkins - 0 for 4
Chris Bootcheck tosses 7 solid innings, with his only mistake being a 2-run homer in the 5th which would tie the game 2-2. Shawn Camp would give up the go-ahead run for Charlotte. In the bottom of the 9th, Rusty Ryal would deliver a RBI-single to tie the game. A couple batters later, Franco smacks a ground ball single to right field to win the game. BJ Rosenberg gets the win and has a 4 scoreless innings streak. Cam Perkins has gone cold since a modest start, he is now 0 for his last 13 at bats.
Akron 3, Reading 2
Severino Gonzalez - 5.1 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 4 K, HR, 2 GB, 4 FB
Mike Nesseth - 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Seth Rosin - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Peter Lavin - 1 for 4, R
Carlos Alonso - 2 for 4, HR, 2 RBI, K (throwing error)
Kelly Dugan - 1 for 4, K
Brock Stassi - 1 for 4
Zach Collier - 1 for 3
Severino remains as hittable as any pitcher this season with a .287 opponent batting average. After dominating Lakewood and Clearwater in 2013, he has not performed on the same level. Again though, he is only 22 and relatively young for the league. His overall command of the strikezone alone makes him a top 30 prospect, but his lack of velocity and an out pitch make it all the more unlikely he stays a starter. Carlos Alonso provides the offense via his 7th homer. It's been a breakout year for the 26 year old. Kelly Dugan and Zach Collier have hit in all 3 games since returning from the DL.
Dunedin 5, Clearwater 4
Miguel Nunez - 6 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 10 GB, 4 FB (throwing error)
Roman Quinn - 2 for 4, RBI, BB
JP Crawford - 0 for 5, 3 K (2 fielding errors)
KC Serna - 0 for 5
Harold Martinez - 3 for 4, 2 R
Gabriel Lino - 2 for 4
Brian Pointer - 4 for 4, R, 2B, 2 RBI
DON'T PANIC PEOPLE. Just the jitters for our man JP, I promise! Yeah, that wasn't a great start to your high-A campaign Mr. Crawford, but you are too good and I can't wait to see what you do this weekend. Roman Quinn settling in nicely since moving to CF. Brian Pointer with a 4 hit game! Somehow that only raised his average to .230. Martinez and Lino with nice days at the plate as well. Miguel Nunez with alternating good/bad starts since May 31. I fully expect him to pitch a no-hitter his next time out.
West Virginia 2, Lakewood 1
Mark Leiter - 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 9 K, 4 GB, 6 FB, WP
Samuel Hiciano - 1 for 5
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 4, 3B, K
Willians Astudillo - 1 for 4, 2B, K
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 4
Zach Green - 2 for 3, 2B, HR, BB
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 1, BB, CS (pickoff error)
Mitch Walding - 0 for 4, 2 K
Carlos Tocci - 2 for 4, K
Mark Leiter everyone! We are finally seeing the turnaround? He has now only given up 2 ER in his last 3 starts (19.1 IP) and has struck out 22. All positive signs. Zach Green with his first HR! He has been on fire since returning from the DL/XST (7 for 17). Carlos Tocci's average is creeping towards .250.
Williamsport 4, Jamestown 2
Ricardo Pinto - 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 4, RBI, BB, K
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 4, K
Aaron Brown - 3 for 4, R, SB
Rhys Hoskins - 1 for 3, R, HBP
Derek Campbell - 1 for 4
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 3, R, BB, K, SB
Sean McHugh - 0 for 3, BB (passed ball)
Williamsport sweeps Jamestown! Cord Sandberg extends his hitting streak to 7 games. Aaron Brown with 3 hits and his first stolen base. Ricardo Pinto pitches 3 scoreless before exiting the game. He had only faced 12 batters, but I don't see his pitch count. Anyone confirm why he exited so early? The Williamsport offense looks to be pretty good this season.
