Tyler Henson - 2 for 4, R, 2B, K, SB
Maikel Franco - 0 for 3, RBI
Cam Perkins - 2 for 4, RBI, 2 K, CS
Greg Smith gives you the typical Greg Smith start and out-duels Indians prospect Danny Salazar. 21.2 consecutive innings without giving up an earned run for Luis Garcia. Cam Perkins delivers a groundball single to score the eventual game winning RBI. Tyler Henson steals his 15th stolen base while playing CF.
Columbus 14, Lehigh Valley 2 (June 21, 2014)
Barry Enright - 4 IP, 11 H, 8 R, 6 ER, BB, 3 K, 5 GB, 4 FB
Jeremy Horst - 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB
Cesar Jimenez - 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 K, WP
Tyler Henson - 1 for 4, K
Maikel Franco - 0 for 4
Cam Perkins - 1 for 4, RBI, 2 K
Some days the opposing team's hitters are just seeing the ball. This one was one of those games. Iron Pigs pitchers combine to allow 20 hits and 4 walks over 9 innings. Barry Enright has not been very good this season.
Columbus 6, Lehigh Valley 4 (June 22, 2014)
Sean O'Sullivan - 4.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, 5 GB, 3 FB (throwing error)
Tyler Knigge - 2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 K
BJ Rosenberg - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Luis Garcia - 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, K, WP
Leandro Castro - 0 for 4
Maikel Franco - 1 for 4
Cam Perkins - 0 for 3
Sebastian Valle - 1 for 3, HR, 3 RBI
Nooooooo! Luis Garcia's no-earned run streak comes to an end. Tyler Knigge takes the loss, but has had mixed results since being called up to AAA. He has yet to allow a walk in 12 IP with Lehigh and is holding batters to a .217 average overall on the 2014 season. A recipe for success if he ever has hopes of getting the call up to the majors. Sebastian Valle back with Lehigh, hits his 3rd with the Iron Pigs and 4th overall.
New Britain 10, Reading 8 (June 20, 2014)
Hoby Milner - 4.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, HR, 3 GB, 3 FB
Kyle Simon - 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Carlos Alonso - 1 for 4, 2 R, BB, K
Kelly Dugan - 1 for 4
Zach Collier - 1 for 1, R, 2B
Aaron Altherr - 2 for 5, R, 2B, 2 RBI (outfield assist, 3B)
Jiwan James - 1 for 3, BB, 2 K
Reading actually had this game tied up after the top of the 7th at 6-6. Nefi Ogando would allow 4 earned runs in 0.1 innings of work. The offense was clicking this game, matching New Britain in hits (13) and going 5 for 11 with RISP. Dugan extends his hitting streak to 4 games since returning, but was replaced as a defensive substitution in the 7th for Zach Collier (who also has himself a 4 game hitting streak since returning from the DL. The shining star of this game however, is of course Aaron Altherr, who is impressing with his return to form. In his last 22 games he is batting .322/.358/.456 with 9 XBH, 5 walks and 3 SB. He has struck out 18 times over that period as well.
New Britain 5, Reading 2 (June 21, 2014)
Perci Garner - 6 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 5 BB, 2 K, 8 GB, 8 FB, WP
Colton Murray - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 4 GB, 0 FB
Carlos Alonso - 2 for 5
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 3, R, RBI, 2 BB, 2 K, SB
Peter Lavin - 0 for 4, K
Jiwan James - 1 for 4, 2 K
Perci Garner has now seriously regressed from his good start to the season. In his last 10 games he has walked 38 batters in 51 innings. Aumontian efforts for sure. Colton Murray remains a diamond in the rough and should easily see himself with Lehigh relatively soon. The 24 year old righty has been dominant at both Clearwater and Reading this season. That Altherr guy picks up two more walks and his 6th stolen base.
New Britain 5, Reading 3 (June 22, 2014)
Adam Loewen - 5 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 K, 7 GB, 6 FB, WP
Mike Nesseth - 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Peter Lavin - 1 for 4, HR
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 3, BB, K, SB
Brock Stassi - 1 for 4
Carlos Alonso - 1 for 4 (throwing and fielding error)
Zach Collier - 0 for 3, RBI, 2 K
Adam Loewen has been all sorts of awful in his last two outings (9.2 IP, 11 ER). Altherr picks up his 7th stolen base and Lavin hits his 2nd HR with Reading (8th overall). Dugan sits this game out as well. Not sure if he re-aggravated an injury or they are still easing him back in. Look out now, Mike Nesseth in his last 5 outings has only given up 1 ER, 7 H, BB and struck out 8 in 10.2 IP. A dramatic improvement over what he has been doing for sure.
Clearwater 6, Dunedin 5 (June 20, 2014)
Ethan Stewart - 5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HR, 5 GB, 2 FB
Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Roman Quinn - 1 for 3, 2 R, 2 BB, 2 SB (outfield assist, 3B)
JP Crawford - 0 for 3, 2 BB, K
KC Serna - 2 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, K
Art Charles - 1 for 2, HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB, K
Harold Martinez - 0 for 4, K
Brian Pointer - 1 for 3, HR, 2 K
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 3, R, K
Ethan Stewart picks up the win and MAG makes a surprise return! Roman Quinn is easily the highlight of the day being a star in all facets of the game. He picks up stolen bases number 4 and 5 and walks twice! JP Crawford, doesn't pick up a hit in his 2nd game since being promoted, but does walk twice. Art Charles and Brian Pointer both hit their 4th home run of the season. Pointer's offensive resurgence continues.
Clearwater 5, Lakeland 4 (June 21, 2014)
Colin Kleven - 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 4 K, 5 GB, 3 FB
Lino Martinez - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 K
Roman Quinn - 1 for 3, 2 R, BB, K
JP Crawford - 2 for 4, R, 2B, 2 K (throwing error)
KC Serna - 2 for 4, R, 2 RBI, K
Harold Martinez - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI, K
Brian Pointer - 1 for 3, K, CS
JP Crawford gets his first two hits as a Thresher on Saturday! He also picks up his 3rd error. Roman Quinn remains red hot at the plate and Brian Pointer extends his hitting streak to 5 games. Daniel Child picks up the win and Lino Martinez earns his 3rd save. Things in Clearwater are really looking up after an abysmal first half.
Clearwater 1, Lakeland 0 (June 22, 2014)
Ryan Demmin - 8 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 8 K, 9 GB, 6 FB
Lee Ridenhour - 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB
JP Crawford - 1 for 4, 2 K
Brian Pointer - 1 for 4, 2B, 2 K (outfield assist, 2B)
KC Serna - 0 for 3
Art Charles 1 for 1, HR, 2 BB, picked off
Harold Martinez - 0 for 3, 2 K
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 3, CS, picked off
Ryan Demmin loves Florida. He has given up a total of 4 earned runs in 28 IP. JP Crawford gets another hit. Art Charles hits his 5th homer and Pointer extends his hitting streak to 6 games.
West Virginia 4, Lakewood 2 (June 20, 2014)
Jon Prosinski - 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 2 K, 13 GB, 3 FB, WP
Samuel Hiciano - 1 for 5, 2 K
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 3, RBI, K, 2 HBP (missed catch error)
Andrew Knapp - 0 for 4, K
Willians Astudillo - 2 for 4, R
Zach Green - 1 for 4, K
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 4, 2 K, SB
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 4
Mitch Walding - 0 for 4, K (throwing error)
Malquin Canelo - 4 for 4, R, 3B
Prosinski gets the hard-luck loss due to costly errors. Cozens picks up his 12th stolen base. Very interesting that they are batting Hiciano at leadoff and not Tocci. Zach Green still riding a 6 game hitting streak since returning from the DL. Malquin Canelo after a very aggressive promotion to Lakewood, goes 4 for 4 after an 0fer in his debut.
Lakewood 6, West Virginia 5 (June 21, 2014, 10 innings)
Yacksel Rios - 3 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 1 ER, 7 GB, 3 FB, WP
Julio Reyes - 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, K
Cody Forsythe - 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R
Will Morris - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Carlos Tocci - 0 for 5, K
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 4, HBP (fielding and throwing error)
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 5, 2 K
Willians Astudillo - 0 for 5
Zach Green - 1 for 4, R, K, HBP (2 fielding errors)
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 2, HR, 2 RBI, BB, K
Larry Greene - 1 for 3, 2 R, RBI, 2 BB
Mitch Walding - 2 for 4, 3B, 2 RBI
Sloppy sloppy fielding from Lakewood for the 2nd game in a row. The Blue Claws won the game in the bottom of the 10th with a walkoff groundball single from Larry Greene, who had just returned off the DL. Andrew Knapp hits his first HR with Lakewood and his 2nd overall on the season. There was also a Mitch Walding sighting. He is still hovering around the Mendoza line.
West Virginia 4, Lakewood 3 (June 22, 2014)
Ranfi Casimiro - 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, K, 4 GB, 9 FB
Samuel Hiciano - 3 for 5, R, 2B, CS
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 4, RBI, BB, K
Andrew Knapp - 2 for 4, BB
Zach Green - 0 for 4, 2 K, CS
Larry Greene - 2 for 4, 2 R, 2 2B, K (fielding error)
Mitch Walding - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI, K
Carlos Tocci - 0 for 4, RBI, K, CS
Another 2 errors in this game from the Blue Claws, it's a pandemic! Greene and Walding have both caught the hitting fever! Greene commits his 3rd error of the season. Lakewood could also soon have a worse record than the Threshers in time. Though, if the 2014 draftees get called up soon, the Blue Claws could be dominating as well.
Auburn 5, Williamsport 3 (June 20, 2014)
David Whitehead - 5.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 8 GB, 5 FB
Elniery Garcia - 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 4, HR, 2 RBI, BB
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 4, BB, K
Aaron Brown - 1 for 5, 2 K
Rhys Hoskins - 1 for 4, K
Derek Campbell - 0 for 4 (throwing error)
Jan Hernandez - 1 for 4, R, 2B, 2 K
Drew Stankiewicz - 1 for 3, BB
Deivi Grullon - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI (passed ball)
Hard to follow up a no-hitter, but David Whitehead tosses a solid game, despite the no-decision. Reliever Manny Martinez blows the game in the bottom of the 8th, giving up 3 runs (2 earned). Sandberg remains a Philadelphia treasure and has a nice 8 game hitting streak. Oh, he also hit his 2nd HR of the season. I'm already trying to envision what overrated veteran we are going to trade this Sandberg for.
Auburn 5, Williamsport 3 (June 21, 2014)
Feliberto Sanchez - 2.1 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, WP
Delvi Francisco - 3.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 5 BB, K, 2 WP
Frank Rivas - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, K, WP
Cord Sandberg - 2 for 3, R, BB, SB, CS
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 4, 3 K (outfield assist, 1B)
Derek Campbell - 0 for 4, 2 K
Wilmer Oberto - 1 for 2, R, RBI, 2 BB, CS
Herlis Rodriguez - 1 for 4, R, 2B, K
Deivi Grullon - 2 for 4, RBI (passed ball)
Feliberto hasn't done so well in his first two starts. He didn't have a particularly well 2013 with the GCL Phils. I think ultimately he winds up in the bullpen. Cord Sandberg! Picks up his 2nd stolen base. Man-crush is in full effect. Deivi Grullon has done well at the plate lately, but his work behind it has been another thing. He committed his 4th passed ball on Saturday.
Jamestown 9, Williamsport 3 (June 22, 2014)
Mitch Gueller - 4 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 5 BB, 4 GB, 6 FB
Cord Sandberg - 3 for 5, R, 2B, SB
Derek Campbell - 0 for 5, K
Aaron Brown - 0 for 4
Rhys Hoskins - 0 for 2, R, BB, K, HBP
Wilmer Oberto - 1 for 4, RBI
Jan Hernandez - 1 for 4, HR, K (missed catch error)
Justin Parr - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI (outfield assist, home)
All Phillies minor league pitchers are incapable of throwing strikes it seems. Though, who cares about that. Cord Sandberg! Through 10 games (43 AB) he is batting .395/.435/.628. That includes 3 walks, 3 steals, 1 caught stealing and has only struck out 6 times. He has an easily sustainable .400 BABIP and a .467 wOBA. He is Mike Trout guys!
GCL Phillies 7, GCL Blue Jays 3 (June 20, 2014)
Luis Morales - 3.1 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Matt Hockenberry - 2.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 5 K
Brandon Leibrandt - 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 K
Olvy Marte - 1 for 2, 2 R, 2 BB
Grenny Cumana - 2 for 5, R, K
Chase Harris - 0 for 2, RBI, BB (outfield assist, 3B)
Larry Greene - 1 for 4, R, 2 RBI, BB, 3 K
Trey Williams - 0 for 4
Damek Tomscha - 2 for 4, 2 R, HR
Jose Pujols - 1 for 4, 3B, 2 RBI, K (outfield assist, home)
Luis Encarnacion - 0 for 4, 2 K
Gregori Rivero - 1 for 4
Temple Alum, Matt Hockenberry makes his pro debut and gets the win. Tomscha homers in his debut and Larry Greene gets a hit and a walk in his first start coming back from injury.
GCL Phils 6, GCL Blue Jays (June 21, 2014)
Jason Marquis - 5 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 7 K, 5 GB, 2 FB
Grenny Cumana - 1 for 4, R
Chase Harris - 1 for 4
Trey Williams - 2 for 4, R, RBI, K
Damek Tomscha - 3 for 3, R, 2B, RBI, BB
Jose Pujols - 1 for 3, R, 2B, RBI, BB
Luis Encarnacion - 0 for 4
Jake Sweaney - 1 for 1, R, RBI, 2 SB
Venn Biter - 1 for 2, R
Joel Fischer - 1 for 2
GCL Jays had the honor to pitch against decorated major leaguer Jason Marquis for 5 innings as he makes his way to AAA where he can hang out with Barry Enright, Sean O'Sullivan and Greg Smith. Jose Pujols first two hits of the season are for extra bases. Jake Sweaney makes his 2014 debut and has himself a nice game. He was replaced by Venn Biter halfway through the game. Tomscha is 5 for 7 in his first two games. The 22 year old righty from Iowa Western Community College has the cool name to go very far. Poor Luis Encarnacion has gone 0 for 8 in his first two games.
