Louisville 4, Lehigh Valley 2
Greg Smith - 6 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, K, 6 GB, 4 FB
Seth Rosin - 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, K
Ken Giles - 1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, K
Tyler Henson - 2 for 5, HR
Maikel Franco - 0 for 5, 2 K
Cam Perkins - 1 for 3, CS, HBP (outfield assist, home)
Greg Smith pitches well enough again, but takes the loss. Lehigh runs into a rehabbing Mat Latos in this game. Seth Rosin rebounds from a bad outing back on May 31 with two scoreless innings. Ken Giles continues to struggle at AAA. Despite this you will still hear WIP ranting and raving to call him up. You call him up and he struggles? You write him off as fast as you do Aumont (not a great comparison I know). In 13.2 IP in Lehigh, he has given up 10 hits, 4 earned runs, 8 walks and has only struck out 9. A little different from his 15 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 5 BB, 29 K line down in Reading. Tyler Henson continues to hit, smacking his 5th HR of the season off Latos in the 3rd. Maikel Franco is reverting back to Franco from the beginning of the year and last time I checked it's no longer 40 degrees during game time. Cam Perkins making a splash in his 2nd game, collecting a hit and throwing out a runner at home in the 9th.
Harrisburg 5, Reading 4
Perci Garner - 6 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 8 K, 6 GB, 2 FB
Colton Murray - 2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, K, WP
Carlos Alonso - 1 for 3, R, 2 BB
Peter Lavin - 2 for 5, 2 R, 2B, RBI, K
Brock Stassi - 1 for 5, RBI
Aaron Altherr - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI, 2 K
Limited his walks, induced ground ball outs and struck out 8? Damn fine game for Perci. Colton Murray couldn't continue his season scoreless streak, ending at 12 innings. Lavin with a strong game, showing he certainly belongs in AA. Altherr hits his 8th double of the season, but is still striking out at an alarming rate. At one point Reading held a 4-0 lead in the game.
Palm Beach 4, Clearwater 3
Ryan Demmin - 7 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 5 K, 7 GB, 4 FB
Roman Quinn - 1 for 5, K
KC Serna - 1 for 5, R, SB
Anthony Hewitt - 0 for 4, 3 K
Art Charles - 3 for 4, 2 R, 2 2B
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 4, R, CS (passed ball)
Brian Pointer - 2 for 4, RBI, K
With a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the 9th, Jordan Guth blows the lead and loses the game. Journeyman, Ryan Demmin, gets the start and does what you expect of a guy 5 years too old for the league. Anthony Hewitt swinging and missing like its his purpose. Lino has his 3rd passed ball with the Threshers.
Greensboro 1, Lakewood 0 (Game 1 of doubleheader)
Ranfi Casimiro - 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 10 GB, 2 FB
Cody Forsythe - 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, K
JP Crawford - 1 for 3
Andrew Pullin - 0 for 2, 2 K (fielding error)
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 2, BB, CS
Willians Astudillo - 0 for 3
Andrew Knapp - 0 for 3, K
Mitch Walding - 1 for 3
Carlos Tocci - 0 for 2
Deivi Grullon - 0 for 2 (pickoff error)
Well that was fun, Astudillo's 18 game hitting streak comes to an end. Ranfi Casimiro continues to pitch well enough and has only surrendered 5 earned runs in his last 5 starts (25.1 IP). Andrew Pullin commits his 14th error in his 51st game at 2B. He had only 5 in 49 in 2013. Grullon also picks up his 6th error.
Lakewood 2, Greensboro 0 (Game 2 of doubleheader, makeup of 4/15 & 6/3 ppd)
Julio Reyes - 5 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 K, 7 GB, 2 FB
Jiandido Tromp - 1 for 3, R, K
JP Crawford - 0 for 3 (fielding error)
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 2, BB, K, 2 SB (outfield assist, home)
Willians Astudillo - 1 for 3, R, RBI
Andrew Knapp - 2 for 3
Samuel Hiciano - 1 for 3, K
Mitch Walding - 0 for 2, RBI
Dylan Cozens everyone! One the day (2 games) he goes 2 for 4, 2 BB, 2 SB, CS, K and an outfield assist. That is damn impressive. His two stolen bases yesterday gave him 10 for the season. Astudillo has a 1 game hitting streak now. Julio Reyes is re-inserted back into the rotation and does incredibly well. JP Crawford commits his 11th error at SS and goes hitless. I'm perfectly fine with him spending more time in Lakewood, regardless of how he and Quinn do for the next month or so. Is that likely to happen? Probably not, especially not with the draft this week.
