Buffalo 7, Lehigh Valley 1 (August 15, 2014)
Sean O'Sullivan - 4.2 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 6 K, 4 GB, 1 FB, WP
Ethan Martin - 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
BJ Rosenberg - 0.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB
Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez - 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, K, WP
Cesar Hernandez - 1 for 4, 2 K, SB
Freddy Galvis - 0 for 4, 3 K
Maikel Franco 0 for 4, K
Cam Perkins - 0 for 3, 2 K
Buffalo outhit the Pigs 12-5 and made easy work of O'Sullivan and Rosenberg. Perhaps instead of pitching, those two can start a business together. 10 non-redeemable TGP dollars to the person that picks the best business venture for those two. MAG has a nice 4.2 inning scoreless streak going. Ethan Martin is either on or off. He is on right now with 5.2 scoreless innings, but was off in his previous 6 appearances, giving up runs in each.
Buffalo 5, Lehigh Valley 0 (August 16, 2014)
Greg Smith - 7 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB, 5 K, HR, 3 GB, 8 FB, WP
Luis Garcia - 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 K, 2 WP (missed catch and pickoff error)
Cesar Hernandez - 1 for 3, BB, 2 K, 2 SB
Freddy Galvis - 0 for 3, BB
Maikel Franco - 0 for 4
Cam Perkins - 1 for 3, BB, K
Cameron Rupp - 0 for 4, 2 K
These are about as good a starts your going to get with Greg Smith on the mound and you better make the most of it. The offense of course went 1 for 8 with RISP, left 9 on base and were outhit 10-5. Maikel Franco is 0 for 8 in his last 2 games. Luis Garcia giving up an earned run for just the 4th time in 35 games with the Iron Pigs this season. With 43 strikeouts and only 12 walks, it has been quite impressive. Yes, he hasn't done well at the MLB level, but I don't think he was given any chance to really showcase himself. He is sure to be called up in September.
Lehigh Valley 3, Buffalo 2 (August 17, 2014)
Jeff Manship - 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 7 GB, 0 FB
Jeremy Horst - 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, K
Phillippe Aumont - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 K
Cesar Hernandez - 0 for 4, K
Freddy Galvis - 2 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, K
Maikel Franco - 1 for 4, HR, 2 RBI
Leandro Castro - 1 for 3
Cam Perkins - 0 for 2, BB
Cameron Rupp - 0 for 3, K
Jeff Manship is still a thing and provides awesome veteran support to our spry and up and coming AAA starting rotation. The Iron Pigs win the game in a walk-off with Galvis delivering a 2-out RBI single to tie the game, before Maikel Franco launching a 2-run shot (12th of the season) to left field to end it all. If you add both of the Cam's batting averages together you get .366. Math.
Binghampton 8, Reading 7 (August 15, 2014)
Ryan O'Sullivan - 0.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, K, HR
Austin Wright - 3.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 4 K, HR
Matt Hoffman - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K
Colton Murray - 2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HR
Seth Rosin - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Carlos Alonso - 2 for 4, BB
Zach Collier - 0 for 4, R, BB, K
Kelly Dugan - 2 for 5, 2 R, HR, 2 K
Jake Fox - 2 for 3, 3 R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB (throwing error)
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 4, BB, K
KC Serna - 0 for 4
The starter didn't last through the 1st inning, but Reading was still able to make a game of it, bringing it to within one after the 7th inning. Colton Murray, who has been amazing this season, has had a rough go of it in his last two outings, giving up 6 earned runs. Seth Rosin on the other hand has been lights out and will be worth watching to see if the Phillies bother protecting him this time around and adding him to the 40 man roster. Kelly Dugan heard our cries for more power (indiscernible grunting) and hits his 5th homer of the year.
Binghampton 2, Reading 1 (August 16th, 2014, Game 1 of doubleheader, 7 innings)
Jesse Biddle - 3.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, 3 GB, 2 FB
Mike Nesseth - 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, K
Seth Rosin - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Carlos Alonso - 0 for 3
Zach Collier - 0 for 3, K
Kelly Dugan - 0 for 3
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 3, K
KC Serna - 0 for 2
Peter Lavin - 1 for 1, R, 2B (pinch hitter)
Jesse, Jesse, Jesse...have mercy on us please. How rude is it to pitch with a strained quad and not tell anyone? I have a feeling you are in big trouble mister. Anyway, the bullpen does very well in relief and the offense goes silent after an large output yesterday, mustering up only 3 hits. Also, call me sentimental, but I'd like to see some more starts for Lavin. The guys is having a great season and deserves to be in the lineup. Heck, if Jake Fox continues to get starts, so should Lavin.
Binghampton 7, Reading 3 (August 16th, 2014, Game 2 of doubleheader, 7 innings makeup of 6/25 ppd)
Adam Loewen - 5.2 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, HR, 8 GB, 2 FB
Nefi Ogando - 1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 2 K
Peter Lavin - 1 for 3, R, 2B, K
Kelly Dugan - 1 for 3, R, K
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 3, HR, 3 RBI
Not shown in this recap is that Loewen and Ogando combined to hit 4 batters as well. Altherr hits his 14th HR and has 5 home runs in his last 10 games. Despite the spike in power, his batting average has dipped 20 points from a season high of .255 a month ago.
Reading 1, Binghampton 0 (August 17th, 2014)
Hoby Milner - 9 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 5 K, 9 GB, 8 FB
Albert Cartwright - 3 for 4, 2B, SB
Carlos Alonso - 0 for 3, BB
Kelly Dugan - 0 for 3, K
Jake Fox - 1 for 3, RBI
No that wasn't a Cliff Lee rehab start in disguise, that was Hoby Milner laying down a complete game shutout. He hadn't pitched more than 7 innings this year and 7.2 IP in his professional career before this game. The game's only run was scored via a RBI single from Fox to score Cartwright who had led off the inning with a double.
Clearwater 5, Lakeland 2 (August 15, 2014)
Jordan Guth - 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 6 GB, 6 FB
Ethan Stewart - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Cody Forsythe - 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 K, HR
Roman Quinn - 1 for 4, R, 2B, K
Brian Pointer - 2 for 3, R, 2B, RBI, BB, K, SB
Harold Martinez - 1 for 4, RBI, K
Herlis Rodriguez - 1 for 3, R, 2 K
Guth's turn as a starter this season remains fruitful as he provides another quality start with strikeouts and less hits than innings pitched. I assume that MiLB made a mistake in not giving Forsythe the earned run off his own homerun in the game. Brian Pointer stole his 13th base in the game.
Clearwater 7, Lakeland 5 (August 16, 2014)
Colin Kleven - 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 7 K, 2 HR, 7 GB, 4 FB
Lino Martinez - 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 K
Aaron Baker - 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER
Lee Ridenhour - 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Roman Quinn - 1 for 4, RBI, 2 K, SB, HBP
JP Crawford - 2 for 4, R, 2 RBI, BB, K, SB
Brian Pointer - 1 for 4, HR, 3 RBI, BB, K (fielding error)
Harold Martinez - 1 for 4, 2B
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 2, 2 R, 2 RBI, K (throwing error)
Colin Kleven has put together 4 quality starts in a row in which he has given up a a combined 5 earned runs in 25 innings. Not terrible for the 23 year old in his 5th season with the organization. Roman Quinn steals his 27th base and JP gets two hits and a SB (his 7th) in his return to the lineup. Brian Pointer hits his 13th dinger and commits only his 2nd error of the season. Hard not to be pulling for Pointer to put it altogether at the plate.
Clearwater 10, Lakeland 1 (August 17, 2014)
Kevin Walter - 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K, 3 GB, 4 FB
Jeb Stefan - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K
Aaron Baker - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Ulises Joaquin - 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, K
Roman Quinn - 1 for 4, R, BB, K, SB, CS, picked off
JP Crawford - 3 for 5, R, 2 RBI, K, picked off
Brian Pointer - 1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, BB
Art Charles - 0 for 0, 2 R, 5 BB
Harold Martinez - 2 for 4, 2 R, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, BB
Walter gets his 2nd start of the season (1st in over a month) and makes the most of it. He keeps doing that, he will likely stay there. His success as a reliever this season has been non-existent. Everyone's favorite non-prospect prospect H-Mart hits his 6th homer while driving in 4 runs. Lakeland pitcher Alex Burgos catches both Quinn and Crawford sleeping at 1st this game, but Quinn does take his 28th bag. Oh and that JP Crawford had another 3 hits, but I'm not sure if anyone has heard of him yet.
Lakewood 6, Hagerstown 4 (August 15, 2014)
Matt Imhof - 4.1 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 2 GB, 4 FB
Julio Reyes - 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Jesen Therrien - 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 K, WP
Nick Rodesky - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, K
Carlos Tocci - 2 for 5, R, RBI
Aaron Brown - 2 for 5, 2B, 2 K
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 5, RBI, K
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 4, 2 K
Zach Green - 2 for 4, R, RBI, K
Andrew Knapp - 3 for 4, 2 R, 2 2B (passed ball)
Willians Astudillo - 3 for 4, R
Mitch Walding - 1 for 2, R, 2 RBI, BB, K
Malquin Canelo - 1 for 3, RBI, K
Matt Imhof has had that hot/cold trend we have seen with so many prospects this season. After 5 shutout innings last time out, he was unable to follow that up with anything of substance. Thank goodness the offense was able to get 15 hits and make the most of them going 7 for 16 with RISP. Cozens was the only one left out of the hit club. 2014 draftee, Aaron Brown, has back to back hits in his first two Lakewood starts.
Hagerstown 4, Lakewood 2 (August 16, 2014)
Tyler Viza - 5.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 4 K, 3 GB, 5 FB
Drew Stankiewicz - 1 for 5, R
Aaron Brown - 3 for 5
Andrew Pullin - 0 for 4
Dylan Cozens - 2 for 4, R, RBI, K, SB
Zach Green - 1 for 4, K
Willians Astudillo - 2 for 3, BB
Mitch Walding - 0 for 4, RBI, 2 K
Larry Greene - 0 for 4, 2 K
Jose Mayorga - 1 for 4, 2 K
Tyler Viza has given up 167 hits in 122.1 innings this season. He's walked 22 and struck out only 74. Batters are hitting .324 against him. I'd venture to say I might be able to get a hit against him and I'm just a batting cage pro. Hey, Aaron Brown, stop doing what you are doing. You are greatly exceeding my expectations for the 2014 season and it needs to stop now. This level of excitement needs to simmer down. Dylan Cozens could join the 20/20 club with 6 more homers this season. Very much an outside chance with only 12 games remaining. Maybe later I'll see how many other members of this club there have been in the last 10 years in the Phillies minor league affiliates.
Lakewood 9, Hagerstown 0 (August 17, 2014)
Jon Prosinski - 7 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 4 K, 12 GB, 2 FB
Delvi Francisco - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, K
Carlos Tocci - 3 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, BB, HBP
Aaron Brown - 2 for 3, 2B, RBI, BB, K
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 4, R, RBI
Zach Green - 2 for 5, 2 R, 2B, K
Andrew Knapp - 3 for 5, R, 2B, RBI
Willians Astudillo - 3 for 4, R, RBI, HBP
Mitch Walding - 1 for 3, R, BB, HBP
Larry Greene - 0 for 4, RBI, K
Malquin Canelo - 1 for 4, 2 R, RBI, BB, K
Forget that Prosinski has given up 164 hits in 133.2 innings, the guy just loves inducing groundball outs. Everybody hits....except for Larry Greene. He was getting playing time over Dylan Cozens (presumption) yesterday. This should not be happening. And what did I tell you Brown! Gosh!
Williamsport 4, Mahoning Valley 1 (August 15, 2014)
David Whitehead - 5 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, K, 10 GB, 0 FB
Bryan Sova - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R
Richard Bielski - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R (missed catch error)
Edubray Ramos - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 4, R, K
Jiandido Tromp - 2 for 4, 2 R, K
Rhys Hoskins - 0 for 4, 2 K
Derek Campbell - 2 for 4, R, 2B, 2 RBI
Jose Pujols - 1 for 4, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K
Deivi Grullon - 1 for 4, K
Emmanuel Marrero - 0 for 3
David Whitehead has given up only 4 earned runs in his last 4 starts (21 innings). He has been excellent this year coming back from TJS. Jose Pujols makes his Williamsport debut with an extra base hit and Tromp/Campbell helped provide the rest of the offense.
Mahoning Valley 5, Williamsport 1 (August 16, 2014)
Mitch Gueller - 5.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, K, HR, 7 GB, 5 FB
Chase Harris - 1 for 4, SB
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 4, K
Wilson Garcia - 1 for 4, K
Rhys Hoskins - 1 for 4, 2B
Derek Campbell - 2 for 4, R, RBI
Sean McHugh - 0 for 2, K (2 passed balls)
Emmanuel Marrero - 0 for 3, K
Mitch Gueller nearly throws a quality start and the offense matches Mahoning in hits 7-7, but fall short. It didn't help that the Crosscutters were 0 for 5 with RISP. Derek Campbell has back to back multi-hit games for the first time since July 6-8.
Williamsport 3, Mahoning Valley 1 (August 17, 2014)
Brandon Leibrandt - 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 5 K, 4 GB, 5 FB
Matt Hockenberry - 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB
Calvin Rayburn - 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, K
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 5, R, K
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 4, R, K, SB
Derek Campbell - 2 for 3, R, 2B, RBI, SB
Rhys Hoskins - 0 for 4, RBI, K
Jose Pujols - 0 for 4, 2 K (fielding error)
Chase Harris - 1 for 4, RBI, K
Deivi Grullon - 2 for 4, 2 K
Make that back to back to back multi-hit games for Derek Campbell, who seems to be finding his bat again after a rough stretch. He didn't strike out 10 again in this one, but it was another very good start for the 21 year old 2014 draftee Leibrandt. Tromp notches his 12th stolen base this season.
GCL Phillies, GCL Tigers (August 15, 2014, postponed due to rain)
GCL Phillies 5, GCL Tigers 0 (August 16, 2014, Game 1 of doubleheader, 7 innings)

Tim Zier - 1 for 4
