Today's Probables: LHV: Sean O'Sullivan, REA: Ryan O'Sullivan, CLR: Jordan Guth, LWD: Yacksel Rios, WIL: Alejandro Arteaga

Roman "Candle" Quinn
Roman "Candle" Quinn

Pawtucket 9, Lehigh Valley 0

Brad Lincoln - 5 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 4 GB, 3 FB
Ethan Martin - 1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, HR
Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, K
Cesar Hernandez - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Freddy Galvis - 0 for 3, BB, K
Maikel Franco - 1 for 4, 2 K
Leandro Castro - 0 for 4
Cameron Rupp - 0 for 3, 3 K (throwing error)

Ruben Amaro Jr., to his credit, made a lot of decent moves this offseason (Byrd, Burnett, not signing the big name FA). The one head-scratcher was sending everyone's favorite turkey bacon spokesman and recently acquired (through the Michael Young trade) Rob Rasmussen to Toronto for Brad Lincoln. Lincoln never got a chance to prove himself at the MLB level with the Phillies, but it can't be argued that he has had anything that closely resembles a good season at AAA. I didn't quite understand the move at the time, considering that Rasmussen was younger and had a bit more upside. As you see here, Rasmussen has done well at both the MLB/AAA level this season. Or at least enough to show me that we probably got the worst end of that exchange. Anyway, even if Lincoln had thrown a 9 shutout innings it wouldn't have mattered anyway since the Iron Pigs had a whopping 3 hits on the night and struck out 11 times. That MAG guy has a 6.2 inning scoreless streak going.

Reading 8, Bowie 0

Severino Gonzalez - 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K, 3 GB, 8 FB
Kyle Simon - 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 K, WP
Matt Hoffman - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R,  2 K
Mike Nesseth - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Peter Lavin - 1 for 5, R
Kelly Dugan - 2 for 3, R, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB
Jake Fox - 2 for 5, 2B, RBI, K (fielding error)
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 4, RBI
Zach Collier - 1 for 5, R, 2 K

I guess this is what Sev does, huh? After a stretch of 3 bad starts from July 18 - July 28, he has followed it up with 20 innings of only giving up 15 hits, 5 earned runs, 7 walks and 16 strikeouts. Those are numbers I can live with. It's been a tough season for Severino, who is obviously finding it a bit harder to get by with his stuff. He is going to have to become a Hudson/Moyer-esque guy who knows how to hit his spots if he is going to succeed at the MLB level. It isn't pretty when he doesn't. Hey, Kelly Dugan, I like what you are throwing down right now. We don't have enough corner outfielders with power right now with upside carrying a .303/.391/.447 slash. Please keep doing what you are doing.

Clearwater 7, Daytona 3

Mark Leiter - 7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 1 GB, 10 FB
Perci Garner - 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K
Roman Quinn - 3 for 5, 2 R, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, K
Jesmuel Valentin - 0 for 3, K
JP Crawford - 1 for 4, 2B
Brian Pointer - 0 for 4, 3 K
Art Charles - 1 for 3, 2 R, HR, BB, K
Harold Martinez - 0 for 3, R, BB, K
Gabriel Lino - 0 for 3, R, BB, K

Weird peripherals for Leiter, who isn't a higher fly ball pitcher and doesn't walk very many batters. He was allowed to make some mistakes because Roman Quinn is just absolutely on fire right now. He blasts his 6th HR and 10th double with Clearwater. He has 19 XBH hits overall to go with his 29 stolen bases. This is all coming from a guy that is coming back from a devastating Achilles heal tear mind you. You can all kindly slot him back into all your top10 right now. Art Charles likes to hit home runs when he isn't walking or striking out 4-5 times in a game. It was his organization leading (not counting Jake "What the" Fox) home run. JP with only 1 hit this game and is teetering on the "bust" bubble.

West Virginia 5, Lakewood 1

Yoel Mecias - 4 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 3 K, 3 GB, 6 FB
Joey Denato - 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Nick Rodesky - 2.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 K, WP
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 4
Aaron Brown - 0 for 4, K
Andrew Pullin - 0 for 4, K
Zach Green - 1 for 4, K
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 3, BB, 2 K (passed ball)
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 4, K
Willians Astudillo - 2 for 3, R
Mitch Walding - 0 for 3, K
Malquin Canelo - 1 for 2, RBI, BB

Mecias is clearly still adjusting coming back from TJS. I don't even know how we can even properly assess him at this point, but remains a guy to watch going into the 2015 season. Nothing to really note on the offense, other than "Ted" Willians getting 2 more hits. That is actually really becoming ho-hum at this point.

Mahoning Valley 9, Williamsport 1

Feliberto Sanchez - 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 K, 5 GB, 4 FB
Chris Oliver - 1 IP, 3 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, K, HR
Richard Bielski - 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, K, HR, WP
Mark Meadors - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Bryan Sova - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 4
Jiandido Tromp - 1 for 3, HR, BB, 2 K
Rhys Hoskins - 0 for 4, K
Jose Pujols - 0 for 4, K
Deivi Grullon - 0 for 4, K (passed ball)
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 1, 2 BB, K HBP

Feliberto was having a good game through 4 scoreless innings before surrendering 2 runs in the 5th. Enter 2014 draftee Chris Oliver. Across two levels, Oliver has compiled 25 hits, 27 runs (17 earned), 23 walks and 10 strikeouts in 17.2 innings. It's a professional debut he'd like to forget following the season. Jiandido Tromp provided the lone offense, getting his 13th homer among 4 scattered Crosscutter hits in the game.

GCL Braves 4, GCL Phillies 0

Denton Keys - 6 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 1 ER, BB, 6 K, 7 GB, 1 FB (pickoff error)
Austin Davis - 3 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, BB, 2 K, 4 GB, 1 FB (pickoff error)
Venn Biter - 0 for 4, 2 K
Tim Zier - 0 for 4, K
Grenny Cumana - 0 for 3, BB (fielding error)
Damek Tomscha - 0 for 3
Jesus Posso - 0 for 3, K
Joel Fisher - 1 for 3 (throwing error)
Gustavo Martinez - 0 for 3
Olvy Marte - 0 for 3, K

Poor Denton, pitches a  good game and is hit with the loss. Grenny Cumana broke up the perfect game in the 4th with a walk and Fisher broke the no-hitter with a single in the 8th. Thus concludes your highlights of the game as the GCL Phils are 1-hit in the afternoon matchup.
