Phillies Minor League Roundup - August 21, 2014

Today's Probables: LHV: Greg Smith, REA: Adam Loewen, CLR: Colin Kleven, TBD, LWD: Yacksel Rios, WIL: Ricardo Pinto

USA TODAY Sports

Pawtucket 3, Lehigh Valley 2

Sean O'Sullivan - 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 6 K, HR, 3 GB, 4 FB
Phillippe Aumont - 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, K, HR, WP
Cesar Hernandez - 0 for 4, K
Freddy Galvis - 1 for 4, K
Maikel Franco - 0 for 4
Cam Perkins - 0 for 3, K
Cameron Rupp - 3 for 3, R, 2B
Tyler Henson - 1 for 2, HR, 2 RBI, K

Sean O'Sullivan gets hit with the no-decision, despite a solid effort. Phillippe Aumont came on in relief and gave up the 1-out walkoff HR in the bottom of the 9th. This was surprisingly only Aumont's 2nd loss of the season. He continues to add free passes to his mantle and has collected another 35 in 53.1 innings this season. Cameron Rupp has raised his average almost 30 points in his last 13 games (.133 to .162). Baby steps for big Tex.

Bowie 6, Reading 2

Ryan OSullivan - 6 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, HR, 7 GB, 3 FB
Austin Wright - 0.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, K
Seth Rosin - 0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R
Nefi Ogando - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Carlos Alonso - 0 for 4, K
Kelly Dugan - 1 for 4, K
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 4, R, 2B, K
Peter Lavin - 2 for 4, RBI, 2 K

It wasn't a great evening for Reading on all fronts. Ryan couldn't emulate his AAA namesake and takes his 8th loss of the season, his 3rd in his last 5 games. Peter Lavin's season line (2 levels) sits at .285/.330/.448 with 11 HR and 11 SB. He plays great defense and should get a shot at AAA next season. Yes, I know he is 26 years old, but he has had a great season for the Phils and deserves a chance with the Pigs in 2015.

Daytona 5, Clearwater 4

Jordan Guth - 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, K, 2 HR, 9 GB, 3 FB
Aaron Baker - 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 K, HR
Roman Quinn - 1 for 5, K
Jesmuel Valentin - 1 for 4, R, 2B, BB (throwing error)
JP Crawford - 1 for 3, BB
Brian Pointer - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI, K
Harold Martinez - 0 for 4, R, K
Gabriel Lino - 2 for 4, HR, 3 RBI, K

Jordan Guth has his second truly bad turn as a starter last night and picks up the loss. It's been a good season for Guth and should find himself in the Reading rotation next season I'd guess. Valentin picks up his 2nd error since coming over to the Phillies organization, however he did get a walk and extra base hit. JP with only another one hit and walk game. Gabriel Lino seems to get hot in stretches and is doing very well in his last 6 games. He picked up his 4th HR this season.

Lakewood, West Virginia (postponed due to inclement weather)

Williamsport 2, Mahoning Valley 1

Alejandro Arteaga - 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 8 K, 2 GB, 4 FB
Edubray Ramos - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 K
Calvin Rayburn - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Cord Sandberg - 0 for 4, K
Jiandido Tromp - 1 for 4, K, SB
Rhys Hoskins - 1 for 4, 2B, 2 K
Jose Pujols - 0 for 4, K
Deivi Grullon - 1 for 3, R, 3B, BB, K
Jan Hernandez - 1 for 2, RBI, BB
Robinson Torres - 2 for 3, RBI
Emmanuel Serra - 2 for 2, 2B

Arteaga, statistically, has been one of the worst pitchers in the organization this season, but boy did he throw a gem last night. He was able to hold the 1 run game before giving way to the bullpen. The Crosscutters would tie the game in the 7th on a RBI single from Hernandez to score Grullon, who tripled to lead off the inning. Williamsport would go on to win the game via a walkoff in the 9th from an 1-out RBI single from Torres. Tromp picks up his 13th stolen base. Jose Pujols is having a bit of an adjustment at Williamsports. He is 2 for 20 with no walks in his first 5 games.

GCL Braves 7, GCL Phillies 3

Franklyn Kilome - 4 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 K, 8 GB, 1 FB
Seranthony Dominguez - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
Gregorio Santos - 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, HR
Venn Biter - 0 for 4, 2 K
Tim Zier - 0 for 4, 2 K (throwing error)
Grenny Cumana - 1 for 3, 2 R, 2B, BB (fielding error)
Damek Tomscha - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI
Jesus Posso - 1 for 4
Gustavo Martinez - 1 for 4, R
Wiliam Cucias - 1 for 3, BB
Olvy Marte - 1 for 4, RBI

This was the first start (7 prior) that Kilome had given up more than 2 earned runs in a game. The offense provided 6 hits, but were 2 for 6 with RISP and left 6 on base. No Phils hitter had a multi-hit game. Cumana with a solid day at the plate, but commits his 10th error.
