Durham 8, Lehigh Valley 5
Jeff Manship - 2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB
Phillippe Aumont - 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
Tyler Knigge - 2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, K
Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez - 1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, K
Ethan Martin - 1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, K (throwing error)
Cesar Hernandez - 2 for 4, R, BB
Freddy Galvis - 4 for 5, 3 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, SB
Maikel Franco - 2 for 5, 2B, RBI, K
Leandro Castro - 0 for 4, BB
Cam Perkins - 0 for 4, RBI, BB
Cameron Rupp - 0 for 4, BB, 2 K
Yes, Jeff Manship is still in the organization. Surprisingly, the Phillies have no one better to come up from Reading to take his innings. Aumont is the only pitcher to NOT give up a run in the game. In MAG's 3rd appearance with Lehigh, he surrenders his first runs. Cameron Rupp, as nice a guy as he is, has been absolutely abysmal at the plate this season. A .133 average through 135 at bats is no way to go through life, son. Freddy Galvis with a monster 4 hit game that included his 1st homerun and stolen base with the Iron Pigs. Maikel Franco provides another multi-hit game (his second in a row) and is slugging .600 in his last 10 games.
Reading 3, Harrisburg 2
Hoby Milner - 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 4 GB, 7 FB (fielding error)
Mike Nesseth - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Colton Murray - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Albert Cartwright - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI, BB, K, 2 SB
Kelly Dugan - 0 for 2, 2 BB
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 3, BB, K (2 outfield assists, both home)
KC Serna - 1 for 4, R, K
Zach Collier - 1 for 3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB, K
Make that 3 quality starts in a row for Milner and his 5th in his last 10 games (5.27 ERA over that 10 start span). Colton Murray locks down his 3rd save with Reading and has a 1.64 ERA through 44 innings with the club. He hasn't given up an earned run since July 4th. That is a 13.1 inning scoreless streak. In other news, Dugan goes hitless but gets on base twice, Altherr throws out two guys at home and Zach Collier plays with our heart strings. He blasted his 5th homer in his last 4 games. These homers are nice, but they aren't sustainable. He doesn't walk or hit for a high enough average, streaky-ness aside, to profile as anything more than a 4th/5th outfielder.
Daytona 3, Clearwater 1
Miguel Nunez - 6.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 6 K, 6 GB, 2 FB
Cody Forsythe - 1.1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, K
Lee Ridenhour - 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R
Roman Quinn - 1 for 4
JP Crawford - 0 for 3, BB, K
Brian Pointer - 1 for 3, BB, K, SB
Harold Martinez - 0 for 4, K
Gabriel Lino - 0 for 4, 2 K
A nice little hot streak from Nunez lately. In his last 4 starts he has gone 24.1 innings of 10 hit, 2 run (1 earned) ball with 10 walks and 20 strikeouts. The tall, lanky 22 year old from the Dominican Republic might be finally putting some pieces together after struggling much of the season. Roman gets on base, but doesn't steal a bag to end his 4 game stolen base streak. Brian Pointer picks up his 11th stolen base and is putting together a decent season.
Asheville 8, Lakewood 1
Yoel Mecias - 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 9 GB, 6 FB
Frank Rivas - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Daniel Child - 0.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB
Julio Reyes - 1.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 0 ER, BB, K
Samuel Hiciano - 0 for 4, K
Andrew Pullin - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K (fielding error)
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 4, K
Zach Green - 0 for 4, RBI, 2 K (missed catch error)
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 4, 2B, K
Willians Astudillo - 2 for 4
Mitch Walding - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Larry Greene - 0 for 4, 4 K (fielding error, outfield assist, 2B)
Drew Stankiewicz - 0 for 2, R, BB, 2 K (throwing error)
Mecias is the hard luck loser, giving up only 3 hits in his 5 innings of work. He has given up only 12 hits in his 20 innings of work in Lakewood. Perhaps MattWinks would better know this, but I'm curious about the low strikeout totals so far from Mecias. Frank Rivas continues to impress and could be on the fast track to Clearwater to end the season. The offense collects only 4 hits, being shut down by former Phillies draft pick and 2014 draftee Kyle Freeland. Dylan Cozens played CF in this one and hits his 3rd double in his last 4 games. Larry Greene serves up a platinum sombrero with a side of error.
GCL Phillies 7, GCL Braves 4
Elniery Garcia - 4 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 3 K, 6 GB, 2 FB
Venn Biter - 2 for 5, 3B, RBI, K, SB
Tim Zier - 2 for 4, RBI, BB
Grenny Cumana - 0 for 3
Carlos Duran - 1 for 4, R, 2 K
Joel Fisher - 0 for 3
Jose Pujols - 0 for 3, R
Trey Williams - 1 for 4, R, 2B, 2 RBI, K
Luis Encarnacion - 1 for 4, R, 2 K
Olvy Marte - 3 for 4, R, 2B, 2 RBI
Garcia gets his first start of the season, after 7 appearances as a reliever between GCL and Williamsport. This was his most success yet. Tim Zier, offensive dynamo, keeps hitting and appears to have overtaken Tomscha as the GCL third baseman. Grenny Cumana in the lineup for the first time since July 21, but didn't play the whole game. I suspect he is still battling injuries. The diminutive shortstop has had an outstanding stateside debut even despite the lack of plate appearances.
