Wandy Rodriguez has signed a minor league deal with the Atlanta Braves, per the Atlanta Journal Constitution. You may be wondering "Hey, wasn't he going to sign with the Phillies? Didn't we hear about that like two weeks ago?" Yes, you are correct! Rodriguez was going to sign with the Phillies pending a physical.
So, funny story, apparently Rodriguez failed his physical with the Phillies and no deal was signed. Instead, the Braves decided that a failed Phillies physical was fine with them and inked Wandy to a minor league deal. The deal includes an invitation to spring training with the Braves. He'll presumably compete for their fifth rotation spot.
Where does that leave the Phillies' rotation? Well, they have Cole Hamels (for now) and Cliff Lee, and then a steeeeeep drop-off leads us to Jerome Williams and Aaron Harang. So they're still in need of a fifth starter. They can look inside the organization at David Buchanan or Kevin Slowey, or Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez could even be stretched out as a starter (though that would probably necessitate him starting the year in AAA). But our former Supreme Blog Lord Peter Lyons has another idea...
Crawling back on hands and knees to Kyle Kendrick will be a great look.
