Game 162 Open Thread: Marlins at Phillies

WE MADE IT!!!

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

WE MADE IT, GUYS!

WE MADE IT TO THE END OF A SEASON WHERE THE PHILLIES COULD LOSE 100 GAMES AND DEFINITELY LOST 99!! WE LIVED THROUGH IT AND HERE WE ARE, SANITY (MOSTLY) INTACT! OK SANITY NOT INTACT AT ALL BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT!

I was at the second game of yesterday's double header, and in Lot K (the tailgate lot), there were actual Phillies fans tailgating in the mist and cold and wind. They were all drinking and having fun and I was amazed. You cannot keep us Philadelphia fans down. There had to be less than 3000 actual humans at the game last night, and 50-75 of them were actually tailgating. We are irrepressible. It's not easy being a fan of the Phillies sometimes, or of Philadelphia sports, but it's who we are.

Which brings me to today's final Sesame Street clip.

I love this version of "Bein' Green". There's so much soul in it. I cry every time I listen to Ray Charles sing this song. It's not easy being a Phillies fan. Or an Eagles fan. Or, to be honest, anyone. Being who we are isn't easy, it isn't automatic. We have to work to accept who we are. Here's Kermit singing the original, doing that work in front of our eyes.

I love the part where he says "Green can be big, like an ocean. Or important, like a mountain! Or tall, like a tree!" Kermit goes from depression to positivity and acceptance in the span of one song. "When green is all there is to be, it could make you wonder why. But why wonder, why wonder? I'm green. It'll do fine. It's beautiful. And I think it's what I want to be." Preach, Kermit.

Thank you for letting me share some of my favorite Sesame Street clips with you over this last month of the season. I hope you enjoyed them as much as I have.

There's baseball today, and I hope you all enjoy it. For the first time in awhile, I'm not upset about the long offseason. It's going to be so exciting for us Phillies fans to see what comes next.
