What a better way to start of the season than against all the prospects that the Phillies want out of the Red Sox farm system, huh? Castillo, Cecchini, Swihart, Marrero..they were all there! The IronPigs matched the Sox in hits, but displayed high levels of Benny Hill-ism in the field. Joely did not have a particularly good outing and struggled with control most of the night. LHV two best batters are held hitless. Franco even grounded into two double-plays. A rehabbing Chad Billingsley takes the mound in tonight's matchup.
Reading, Portland (ppd due to rain)
I wanted to watch Nola, but he goes tonight obviously for Reading.
Dunedin 5, Clearwater 2
Matt Imhoff - 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 0 K, HR, 7 GB, 6 FB, WP
Mark Leiter - 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 2 K, HR
Edubray Ramos - 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, HR
Drew Stankiewicz - 1 for 3, BB, K
Willians Astudillo - 0 for 4
Domonic Brown - 0 for 2. 2 K
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 2, R, 2B
Andrew Knapp - 3 for 4, 2B, RBI
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 4, K
Zach Green - 1 for 4, R, 2 K
Aaron Brown - 1 for 4, 2B, K
As reported by many, Imhof's velocity was in the mid 80's for most of the evening. That isn't particularly good, though perhaps its still early. Leiter and Ramos didn't fair much better in their respective two-inning appearances. The Threshers matched Dunedin in hits, but left 7 on base and went 1 for 8 with RISP. Dom Brown on rehab assignment strikes out twice, and the club commits 8 whiffs in total. The titan of bat speed, Astudillo, goes hitless in his first game. Pullin has himself a pinch hit double and Knapp slaps 3 base hits on the evening. David Whitehead take the rubber tonight for Clearwater.
Lakewood 2, Kannapolis 1
Ricardo Pinto - 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K, 3 GB, 10 FB
Austin Davis - 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
Calvin Rayburn - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, K
Malquin Canelo - 0 for 3
Cord Sandberg - 0 for 3
Carlos Tocci - 3 for 4, R, 2B, RBI
Rhys Hoskins - 0 for 2, BB, CS, picked off
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 3, 2 K
Deivi Grullon - 0 for 3, K (fielding error and passed ball)
Damek Tomscha - 0 for 2, BB, 2 K, picked off
Derek Campbell - 0 for 3, 2 K
Grenny Cumana - 1 for 2, R, 2B, BB (throwing error)
Ricardo Pinto allows only 3 hits on 71 pitches. Reports of his fastball in the low 90's. The GB/FB ratio is a bit curious. The offense didn't do much outside of 3rd year BlueClaw Tocci, who delivered the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 9th to score Cumana. Exciting night and start for Lakewood. The big guy Josh Taylor takes the mound this evening.
