Tonight, the Phillies face A.J. Burnett, a man so old and so broken you'd think he'd be on their team. I mean, he was. Last year. But in his final season before retirement, Burnett chose to go to Pittsburgh instead, as if it has some sort of appeal that Philadelphia doesn't.
Burnett is tossing a 1.66 ERA just now and recently shut down the Reds at PNC Park, allowing only two runs over seven innings for his fifth quality start of the year. I can't remember which pitching stats we like and which ones we riot over so I apologize if I offended everyone by mentioning quality starts.
Meanwhile, Getty Images misidentified a picture of Darin Ruf as tonight's Phillies starter, Sean O'Sullivan. That's about all you get when you've logged 11 innings in two starts this season with only seven strikeouts and two hit batsmen. Though O'Sullivan did take out the Nationals earlier this season, so that was nice.
