Game 45 Open Thread: Phillies at Nationals

Ace-on-struggling-ace action today at Nationals Park.

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

If Sean O'Sullivan can hold the Nationals to two runs, then Cole Hamels should be able to prevent them from entering the stadium. Hamels silenced the Rockies in frozen Colorado, his ERA plummeting over the last six games in which he has been the ace we all know and complain about all the time.

Meanwhile, Stephen Strasburg has been knocked around as if he's some kind of over-coddled baby in an adult baseball uniform. I'll let talented linguist, profound point-maker, and Nationals broadcaster F.P. Santangelo simplify it for you:

As long as Hamels can get Bryce Harper out, he should give the Phillies a chance to feast on Strasburg's soft, vulnerable underbelly.

Happy Memorial Saturday, everyone.
