JP Crawford, more like JP AWESOME

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Today's Probables:

CLR: Brandon Leibrandt
LWD: Tyler Viza

Lehigh Valley 5, Louisville 3

David Buchanan - 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 5 K, 7 GB, 3 FB, 2 HBP, WP
Seth Rosin - 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 K
Colton Murray - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, K
Brian Bogusevic - 3 for 5, 3 R, K
Domonic Brown - 3 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, 2 CS, HBP
Maikel Franco - 2 for 4, 2B, 3 RBI
Tommy Joseph - 0 for 4

Perhaps this is the beginning to how David Buchanan gets his groove back. Solid performance all around for him and his bullpen compadres. Colton Murray earns his 2nd save of the season. Maikel Franco drives in 3 runs and hits his 11th double of the season. Bogusevic continues to impress and Dom Brown is riding a 5 game hitting streak.

New Hampshire 5, Reading 2

Zach Eflin - 5 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 7 GB, 3 FB
Anthony Vasquez - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Mike Nesseth - 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R
Roman Quinn - 1 for 5, R, 3B, K
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 3, 2B, 2 RBI
Brock Stassi - 0 for 2, 2 BB
Cam Perkins - 1 for 4, K

I had a chance to watch innings 3 through 9 of this (as best you can watch a game while trying to work), which is of course during which Eflin showed noticeable signs of struggling. He had gotten two quick groundouts in the 3rd before issuing a two-out single, walk, double and a single to score 3 runs. He was missing a lot of his pitches and Fisher Cats took advantage. The offense squandered its opportunities as well, going 1 for 10 with RISP and leaving 8 on base. Quinn notches his 5th triple of the season, but the average continues to descend back to earth after a scorching first couple weeks.

Clearwater 7, Brevard County 3

David Whitehead - 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 7 K, HR, HBP, 3 GB, 4 FB
Edubray Ramos - 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 K
Cody Forsythe - 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB
J.P. Crawford - 2 for 3, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, BB, K, HBP
Andrew Pullin - 3 for 4, 2 RBI, BB, K, SB
Andrew Knapp - 2 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, BB, 2 K
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 5, SB
Zach Green - 0 for 4
Drew Stankiewicz - 1 for 4, R

Does anything else even matter? Crawford is back and he didn't waste any time giving us all the feels. Make sure you at least stand up once today at your desk and thank your lucky stars that Ruben Amaro Jr. drafted this kid and is by far exceeding all our expectations. He DH'd the game yesterday, but I believe will be playing SS the next couple games. Andrew Pullin steals his first base of the season on top of a 3-hit day. Andrew Knapp continues to hit (but also strike out a ton). David Whitehead continues to pitch extremely well. Four quality starts in his first six outings and is showing good groundball tendencies (this past start aside). His only trouble came in the 6th inning when he allowed a 1-out three-run blast.

Augusta 10, Lakewood 8

Josh Taylor - 0.2 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 4 ER, BB
Austin Davis - 3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
Alexis Rivero - 2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, BB, K, HBP
Scott Harris - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 K
Jesen Therrien - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Malquin Canelo - 1 for 5, R (fielding error)
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 4, R, 2 RBI, BB, K
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 5, RBI
Rhys Hoskins - 0 for 5, R, RBI
Deivi Grullon - 1 for 3, R, 2B, RBI, BB
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 2, R, BB (outfield assist, 2B)
Derek Campbell - 0 for 2, R, RBI, HBP (fielding error)
Grenny Cumana - 1 for 2, 2 R, 2 BB (fielding error)

This wasn't a pretty game, with 7 errors between both teams. It was reported that Taylor had a particularly bad warmup before the game (also reportedly some rain) and that carried over to the game. Davis and Rivero didn't fair all that much better. The offense scored 8 runs, but only off of 5 hits. Grullon with the lone XBH of the game. He is slashing .266/.310/.380 through 79 at bats. That might not seem impressive, but for a guy known for his glove, this isn't too bad. Do I also need to mention he is only 19 years old and the 15th youngest player in the South Atlantic League? Keep an eye on him. He becomes a very different kind of prospect if his hitting comes around (does this sound familiar with Tocci?).
