Phillies baseball is back! Yes, after yet another disastrous road series, the Phillies are back for more, and so are we. I know I spent most of the last day absolutely delighted that our GM is considered so insane that people would actually think that he asked the Seattle Mariners for *any* high level prospects for Ben Revere. That wouldn't fly for any other GM in baseball. No one would ever think that Billy Beane or Theo Epstein or even Dan Jennings would do something like that. But Ruben Amaro actually had to deny that he did that. No matter how you look at it, that's hilarious.
But now there's actual baseball to watch! Here are tonight's lineups.
Kevin Correia summits the mound for the Phillies tonight, and he's making both his team and 2015 debuts. Correia is an older jorneyman, and so it was inevitable that he'd both sign with and start for the Phillies at some point. Behind him, nearly everyone has been either switched out or shuffled around. Ben Revere gets the start in centre while Odubel Herrera sits. Chase Utley and Ryan Howard are both out of the lineup and replaced by Andres Blanco and Darin Ruf. Freddy Galvis is also sitting again, and Cesar Hernandez is starting at shortstop instead. Carlos Ruiz is getting more of what I hope will be routine time off, so Cameron Rupp is manning the backstop.
I don't love this lineup, but you know what? I don't hate it. Having all three longtime starters out of the lineup is kind of a relief. The guys on the field tonight have no connection to 2008, and so I'm not constantly confronted with memories of how good they once were. With the veterans, it's about how far the team has fallen. But without them, the team is just bad. I can handle bad. It's tougher to handle getting hit in the face with memories all the time.
The Phillies have their work cut out for them tonight, in that they are playing a game on the road. Maybe tonight is when they finally start getting better on the road. It could totally be tonight! You never know! I mean, it probably won't, but there's still a chance!
