Today's Probables:
LHV: Aaron Nola
REA: Mark Leiter
CLR: Colin Kleven*
LWD: off (All-Star Break)
WIL: Denton Keys
GCL: TBD**
*Clearwater's game last night was suspended after two innings last night due to rain. They'll finish the game today, then play a second game, but only 7 innings. I'll recap both of those games tomorrow.
**GCL Phillies game was also suspended due to rain after 4 innings. It will be completed on 7/8. Shane Watson pitched in this one and was not very good (3 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, 2 K). The opposing pitcher was even worse, so lets chalk that up to weather.
Lehigh Valley 5, Buffalo 4
Severino Gonzalez - 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 5 GB, 5 FB
Cesar Jimenez - 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, K
Juan Gutierrez - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Chase d'Arnaud - 2 for 4, 2 R, K, SB
Cord Phelps - 1 for 3, RBI, BB
Brian Bogusevic - 2 for 4, RBI
Russ Canzler - 1 for 4, HR, 2 K
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 3, R, 2B, BB, picked off
Jordan Danks - 1 for 4, HR, 2 RBI, K
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 3, BB, K
Gonzalez doesn't factor into the decision, while Jimenez blows the save, gets the win and Gutierrez finishes with his 2nd save. The Iron Pigs scored all their runs in the 7th, 8th and 9th inning. Jordan Danks 2-run homer (his 2nd of the year) in the 9th put Lehigh Valley ahead. Aaron Altherr made his AAA debut with a hit and a walk. Former Phillie, Randy Wolf, held the Iron Pigs to 6 hits, 3 earned runs and struck out 7 in 7.2 innings.
Akron 9, Reading 4
Tom Windle - 4 IP, 11 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, K, 3 GB, 3 FB
Ethan Martin - 2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 K
Ryan O'Sullivan - 2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 K, HR
Colton Murray - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R
J.P. Crawford - 1 for 3, R, 2 BB, K
KC Serna - 3 for 3, R, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI
Kelly Dugan - 0 for 4, RBI, K
Brock Stassi - 0 for 4
Brian Pointer - 1 for 3, K (fielding error)
Tom Windle has had a June to forget. In 25 innings he has given up 35 hits, 19 earned runs and 14 walks. He has only struck out 10 batters during that stretch and batters are hitting .361 off him. His season ERA sits at 5.35. The Reading offense wasn't able to muster up much, being held to 0 for 8 with RISP and leaving 6 on base total. Yesterday was only the 2nd time 11 games this season that Kelly Dugan has been held hitless. J.P. Crawford's adjustment to AA pitching has been extraordinary. He would best be served playing out the season at AA, but I don't double he could slide into AAA without much effort.
Williamsport 3, West Virginia 1
Luis Morales - 3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, K, 3 GB, 3 FB, HBP
Lewis Alezones - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K, 1 GB, 0 FB
Will Morris - 2.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, BB, K (throwing error)
Robert Tasin - 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K
Zachary Coppola - 1 for 4, R, SB
Venn Biter - 1 for 3, BB, K, SB
Jose Pujols - 0 for 3, RBI, 2 K
Brendon Hayden - 2 for 3, R, BB, CS
Jan Hernandez - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI
Carlos Duran - 2 for 4, K
Gregori Rivero - 0 for 3
Dylan Bosheers - 0 for 3
Grenny Cumana - 1 for 3, R
Luis Morales wasn't particularly sharp in his Williamsport debut, but Alezones and the bullpen were spectacular. After going 11 for 17 to begin the season, Jose Pujols was held hitless yesterday. Venn Biter stole his 1st base of the season and Coppola picked up his 2nd. Both are off to hot starts at the plate along with Hayden.
